Organisational Context

This position is based at the World Food Programme (WFP) Zanzibar Sub-Offices (SOs). The job holder typically reports to a Programme Policy Officer or designated supervisor.

The role requires the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, perform basic analyses, and compile reports to support information consistency and smooth programme/project implementation.


Job Purpose

Provide administrative, operational, partner, and government engagement support to ensure the smooth implementation of WFP activities in Zanzibar.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform specialized and/or standardized processes and activities within the specific technical area of work, ensuring alignment with programme policies and guidelines.
  • Provide project management and general office support in line with WFP policies and procedures.
  • Support the Programme Policy Officer in liaising with Government counterparts, NGOs, CSOs, partners, and media to ensure effective collaboration and monitoring of WFP projects and joint programmes.
  • Facilitate programme implementation by assisting in planning, organizing, and monitoring WFP programme activities in Zanzibar.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support, including handling documentation, organizing meetings, trainings, workshops, and assisting in distribution processes.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data recording, verification, and consolidation for programme reports in compliance with WFP standards and donor requirements.
  • Work closely with internal counterparts to support effective collaboration, implementation, and monitoring of programme and project activities.
  • Support communication and coordination with local partners, agencies, NGOs, and government counterparts.
  • Participate in UN and WFP-related activities organized by Zanzibar UN-RCO and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (RGoZ) through relevant ministries, as required.
  • Act as a point of contact for resolving general operational queries and requesting assistance when necessary.
  • Work under the guidance of the Head of the Zanzibar Office to implement standard emergency preparedness measures to ensure rapid response and resource mobilization during crises.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned by the supervisor, Programme & VAM team, and WFP Management.

Desired Experience for Entry into the Role

  • Progressively responsible support experience in programme operations, preferably in humanitarian or development organizations
  • Experience coordinating with government counterparts and partners
  • Demonstrated experience in programme implementation
  • Experience observing or assisting in government discussions, meetings, workshops, and trainings
  • Strong writing, communication, and interpersonal skills

Standard Minimum Academic Qualifications

Education

  • Completion of secondary school education
  • Post-secondary education, including a first degree in Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or other relevant fields

Experience

  • Minimum of 1–3 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Experience observing or assisting with policy discussions
  • Experience coordinating with government counterparts and partners
  • Experience implementing technical programmes (e.g., Nutrition, Agriculture, Seaweed, Anticipatory Action, DRR, School Feeding)
  • Experience contributing to programme implementation and operational design

Language

  • Fluency in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili
