Project Background
The Reaching Impact, Saturation and Epidemic Control (RISE) project is funded by the United States Department of State (DoS) to support malaria control initiatives in Tanzania.
The project focuses on strengthening:
- Malaria prevention
- Diagnosis and treatment
- Surveillance systems
- Monitoring and evaluation
RISE operates across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar in close collaboration with key national and local health authorities, including:
- National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP)
- Zanzibar Malaria Elimination Programme (ZAMEP)
- President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG)
The project aims to:
- Strengthen alignment with national malaria strategies
- Improve service delivery quality
- Enhance health system performance and resilience
The current implementation period runs from December 2025 to September 2026, requiring intensive multi-region field implementation supported by strong coordination and logistics.
Position Summary
The Project Driver (PD) provides dedicated transport and logistical support to the RISE project team.
The role involves:
- Operating and maintaining a project vehicle
- Ensuring safe, timely transportation of staff and project materials
- Supporting travel logistics for field activities
The Project Driver must maintain the vehicle in a clean, safe, and roadworthy condition while ensuring compliance with project and national regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation & Logistics
- Provide safe and reliable transportation for project staff and materials.
- Ensure timely movement for approved project activities and field visits.
- Support travel planning and logistics coordination.
Vehicle Maintenance
- Maintain the assigned project vehicle in clean and good working condition.
- Monitor and coordinate vehicle servicing, repairs, and insurance.
- Ensure the vehicle remains roadworthy at all times.
Compliance & Safety
- Follow U.S. Government and Jhpiego motor vehicle policies.
- Comply with the Tanzania Road Traffic Act.
- Ensure adherence to fuel use policies and operational guidelines.
Coordination
- Work closely with:
- The Supervisor
- RISE Lead Driver(s)
- Senior Program Officer
- Coordinate scheduling and support procurement related to:
- Vehicle maintenance
- Insurance
- Alternative transportation arrangements when necessary
Required Qualifications
Communication Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in Kiswahili and English.
Computer Skills
- Basic knowledge of:
- MS Word
- Internet use
- Willingness to learn and use Jhpiego systems.
Flexibility & Mobility
- Willingness to live in or relocate to any of the following locations:
Mainland Tanzania:
- Dar es Salaam
- Kagera Region
- Pwani Region
Zanzibar:
- Pemba Island
- Unguja Island
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 70% of the time.
