Since 2022, the company has achieved over 4 million battery swaps, providing clean energy access to approximately 225,000 people. Jaza employs local women, known as Jaza Stars, to run these services, empowering them to become leaders and entrepreneurs within their communities.

Position Overview

The Regional Service Engineer owns technical operations and issues at the regional level. The primary responsibility is maintaining reliable technical operations to ensure Hub uptime. This role reports to the Regional Coordinator.

Key Accountabilities

• Energy Uptime: Own and manage regional energy uptime to a minimum of 99.9% by ensuring all systems perform as expected.

• Pack Health: Ensure battery packs undergo troubleshooting and repair to maintain 98% pack health (limiting defects to 2%).

Roles and Responsibilities

Technical Monitoring and Maintenance

• Proactively oversee Hub energy levels to ensure uninterrupted operations.

• Diagnose and repair defective packs while meticulously recording relevant data.

• Monitor Swap and PV percentages across regional Hubs, taking action when they exceed 80%.

• Carry out scheduled and preventative maintenance on Hub energy systems.

• Employ remote access capabilities to resolve performance issues and conduct on-site visits for physical repairs.

Operations and Data Management

• Oversee Hub commissioning, testing procedures, and formal activation sign-offs.

• Establish Hub phones and controllers while ensuring accurate data upkeep within the dashboard.

• Document, address, and escalate technical concerns using Gitlab.

• Establish and sustain reliable connectivity across all Hubs in the region.

• Maintain accurate records of equipment, components, and inventory levels.

Leadership and Development

• Regularly scrutinize technical reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.

• Test and evaluate new products and firmware to contribute to ongoing product development.

• Conduct weekly coaching for Tech interns to help them understand responsibilities and evolving technologies via the Jaza Tech Handbook.

• Effectively communicate technical concerns to the Regional Coordinator to ensure prompt resolution.

Qualifications

• Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a relevant technical discipline.

• Technical Proficiency: Proven 1-2 years of expertise in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems and power electronics.

• Experience: Demonstrable experience in managing and optimizing energy systems for maximum uptime.

• Analytical Skills: Data-driven mindset with proficiency in data interpretation for performance tracking.

• Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose complex technical problems and develop effective, timely solutions.

• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and stakeholder collaboration.

• Leadership: Self-motivated with the ability to lead and mentor technical teams.
