Role Overview: Senior Consultant (Tanzania)

Reports to: Director
The Senior Consultant is a high-level, commercially-minded leader responsible for driving the organization’s growth in Tanzania. This role combines technical advisory with aggressive business development, requiring a candidate who can navigate the complexities of government, donor, and private-sector landscapes while mentoring junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Strategic Growth

Identify and convert new business opportunities within the Tanzanian market.

Lead the end-to-end proposal process: technical design, budget preparation, and commercial negotiations.

Build and maintain a strategic network of clients, donors (USAID, EU, UN, etc.), and government officials.

Contribute to thought leadership and the development of new service lines.
Technical Leadership & Project Management

Provide senior-level technical direction on complex consultancy assignments across priority sectors.

Manage project lifecycles: work planning, resourcing, risk mitigation, and quality assurance.

Oversee financial health, including budget management (USD/TZS), forecasts, and cost controls.

Represent the firm at high-level conferences, stakeholder fora, and senior presentations.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL)

Design and oversee MEL systems, including Theories of Change (ToC) and results frameworks.

Ensure adaptive management by capturing lessons learned and project indicators.
Team Management & Compliance

Mentor project teams, allocate tasks, and provide feedback to enhance staff capabilities.

Ensure strict adherence to donor regulations, procurement rules, and safeguarding policies.
Candidate Profile
Education
-
Master’s Degree: Required in Development Studies, Economics, Public Policy, MBA, Project Management, or a related field.

A Bachelor’s degree may be considered only with exceptional, proven experience.
Experience
-
7–10 years of progressive experience in consulting firms, international organizations, or government advisory.

Proven Track Record: Demonstrable success in winning and managing multi-stakeholder or donor-funded contracts.

Eligibility: Must be eligible to work in Tanzania.
Technical Skills

Project Management: Proficiency in managing complex schedules, donors, and subcontractors.

Sector Expertise: Knowledge in areas such as public sector reform, climate, agriculture, health, or finance.

Analytical Tools: Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with statistical software (Stata, R, SPSS) or qualitative tools (NVivo) is an advantage.

Communication: Excellent written and spoken English; fluent Kiswahili is strongly preferred.

Additional Desirable Qualifications
