I. Position Overview

Job Title: Senior Relationship Manager, Public Sector Business
-
Grade/Band: 6
-
Reports To: Head, Institutional Banking and Public Sector Business
-
Primary Objective: To aggressively grow and maintain the Bank’s Public Sector portfolio through strategic acquisition, incremental business from existing clients, and proactive cross-selling of NCBA products.
II. Key Responsibilities & Time Allocation
-
Business Development (45%): Managing and retaining relationships while generating new business. This includes growing the balance sheet (assets, liabilities, and contingent liabilities) and increasing facility utilization.

Relationship Management (20%): Executing strategies for deep client penetration through constant contact, needs assessments, and follow-up meetings to expand the Bank’s wallet share.

Risk Management (20%): Ensuring strict adherence to Bank credit policies, regulatory requirements, and KYC/AML standards to minimize risk exposure.

Credit Preparation (10%): Structuring financing proposals, analyzing financial statements, and managing the end-to-end credit approval process.

Administration & Reporting (5%): Serving as the primary contact point for the Public Sector portfolio and maintaining accurate operational reports.
III. Core Activities & Operations
Sales & Market Intelligence

Prospect for and acquire new customers within the Public Sector segment.

Monitor portfolio performance against targets and provide market intelligence to improve the Bank’s competitive position.

Identify cross-selling opportunities that embed the Bank’s products into the client’s daily operations.
Credit & Risk Oversight
-
Negotiate terms and conditions for credit facilities.
-
Review daily large transaction reports and report suspicious transactions.

Make critical decisions regarding the payment or non-payment of customer cheques/instructions.

Coordinate with Retail managers to ensure daily transactions do not create undue exposure for the Bank.
IV. Candidate Profile: Competencies & Qualifications
Experience & Education
-
University Degree: Minimum Upper 2nd Class Honors or 3.0 GPA.
-
Experience: At least 7 years in Banking, with a minimum of 4 years in sales.

Public Sector Niche: At least 2 years specifically focused on Public Sector business.
-
Professional Qualification: Relevant certification in Banking, Finance, or Marketing.
Technical Skills

Credit Analysis: Deep experience in structuring moderately complex institutional banking credits.

Negotiation & Persuasion: Ability to convince and impress high-level stakeholders to reach mutually beneficial agreements.

Product Knowledge: Broad understanding of banking operations and the ability to recognize new product development areas.

Planning: Strong organizational skills to manage long-term lead generation (6 months – 1 year).
