Job Vacancy: Specialist – Security Operations (1 Position)

Job Purpose
The Specialist – Security Operations will be responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing the monitoring, detection, and response to cybersecurity incidents within the bank. The role focuses on maintaining strong security monitoring systems, identifying threats, and ensuring effective incident response to protect the bank’s digital infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement security monitoring and detection activities across all systems within the bank.
- Maintain and configure security tools such as SIEM platforms, intrusion detection systems, and threat intelligence solutions.
- Collaborate with the Security Operations Center (SOC) team to develop and implement security policies, standards, and procedures.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to manage cybersecurity incidents and response processes.
- Monitor network and system activities by analyzing logs and security data to identify suspicious patterns or anomalies.
- Continuously review security alerts and events from multiple sources to detect potential threats.
- Research and maintain a repository of security tools, tactics, and techniques used for security monitoring.
- Collaborate with system vendors and internal teams to verify the security of implemented applications and systems.
- Conduct regular security assessments of networks, systems, and applications to identify vulnerabilities and recommend remediation.
- Maintain documentation including standard operating procedures, security incident reports, and analytical findings.
- Perform threat hunting and analysis to detect emerging cybersecurity threats.
- Implement security procedures and best practices to respond effectively to immediate threats.
- Prepare comprehensive SOC reports for both technical teams and executive management.
- Develop custom scripts to automate security monitoring and operational tasks.
Knowledge & Skills
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Strong understanding of the security monitoring landscape.
- In-depth knowledge of operating system security including Windows, Linux, and Unix.
- Knowledge of security for applications, databases, and middleware technologies.
- Familiarity with security monitoring and incident response frameworks and methodologies.
- Hands-on experience in security monitoring and incident response.
- Strong communication skills in English and Swahili (both written and verbal).
- High levels of integrity, honesty, and professionalism with the ability to build trust with internal teams and external partners.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Preferred Certifications:
- CSA, OSDA, or other relevant cybersecurity certifications.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in cybersecurity or related fields.
- Hands-on experience in offensive or defensive security operations.
- Experience working with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solutions.
- Participation in cybersecurity learning platforms or competitions such as:
- Capture The Flag (CTF) events
- Hack The Box
- TryHackMe
