Job Summary

The Tobacco Leaf Buyer is responsible for procuring high-quality tobacco from registered farmers while ensuring strict compliance with Tanzania Tobacco Board (TTB) regulations and company policies. This role requires excellence in field operations, grading, and farmer relationship management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement: Purchase tobacco from registered farmers in alignment with TTB and GLT standards.

  • Quality Control: Accurately grade tobacco based on quality, moisture content, and classification standards.

  • Operations: Supervise collection centers and coordinate logistics for transport to company warehouses.

  • Documentation: Ensure precise weighing and recording; maintain daily buying reports for management.

  • Farmer Relations: Build strong networks with contracted farmers and provide guidance on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).

  • Compliance: Prevent fraud, side-selling, and malpractices while adhering to government regulations.

  • Field Assessment: Assist in seasonal crop estimation and field assessments.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Crop Science, or a related field.

  • Certification: Must be TTB-qualified with a valid Certificate of Appreciation.

  • Experience: 3–5 years in tobacco buying or agricultural procurement (tobacco experience preferred).

  • Technical Skills: Proficient in tobacco grading standards and basic computer applications (MS Excel/Word).

  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong negotiation, communication, and high integrity.

  • Physical/Logistical: Ability to work long hours in rural environments; valid motorcycle or driving license is an added advantage.
