Volunteer Accountant

Organization: Foundation for African Empowerment (FAE)
Location: Arusha, Tanzania (Supporting initiatives in Tanzania and Zanzibar)

The Foundation for African Empowerment (FAE) is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Accountant to oversee financial management and project funds for its initiatives in Tanzania and Zanzibar.

This is a paid volunteer position open to young professionals, retired experts, or residents with a valid permit living in Arusha.


Role Overview

The successful candidate will ensure that all financial activities align with donor requirements, international best practices, and organizational policies.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

  • Analyze and prepare accurate monthly and annual financial statements.

Grant Accounting

  • Oversee financial reporting for various donor-funded projects.
  • Manage grant accounting processes to ensure compliance.

Audit Coordination

  • Lead the annual audit process.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.

Budgeting and Financial Planning

  • Coordinate the annual budgeting process with the Executive Director.
  • Monitor and manage ongoing financial plans and budgets.

Cash Flow Management

  • Manage and forecast organizational and project cash flow to ensure financial sustainability.

Leadership Advisory

  • Provide regular financial updates and advice to senior leadership regarding the organization’s financial health.

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in financial management, preferably within the NGO sector.

Technical and Soft Skills

Software Proficiency

  • Experience using QuickBooks and other accounting or financial reporting systems.

IT Skills

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience overseeing software installations and financial systems is an advantage.

Communication Skills

  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Ability to produce clear and concise financial reports.

Stakeholder Management

  • Strong relationship-building skills and ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
