Job Summary
Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited is seeking an Electrical Planner to support effective electrical maintenance planning and execution.
The Electrical Planner will help minimize equipment downtime, improve equipment reliability and availability, optimize life-cycle costs, and support production performance. The role involves developing maintenance plans and schedules, preparing work packages, coordinating resources, and maintaining accurate maintenance information in the CMMS.
The position works closely with the Planning Superintendent, Planning Coordinator, Electrical Superintendent, Electrical Supervisors, Reliability, Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Maintenance teams.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Environment & Community
- Comply with the Company’s HSE Management System, site procedures, and applicable legislation.
- Promote a strong safety culture and lead by example.
- Identify, communicate, and address hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Participate in safety, toolbox, incident reporting, and investigation activities.
- Participate in formal and informal risk assessments.
- Ensure risks and appropriate controls are addressed before work begins.
- Operate company vehicles and equipment only when trained, competent, and authorized.
- Promote safety awareness among maintenance and processing personnel.
- Support the department’s target of zero Lost Time Injuries (LTIs).
Maintenance Planning & Operations
- Support the Planning Superintendent and Planning Coordinator in maintaining effective maintenance planning and reliability processes.
- Review approved work requests and create, update, and maintain work orders in the CMMS.
- Develop complete job plans, including:
- Work scopes
- Task lists
- Work steps
- Labour requirements
- Materials
- Tools
- Estimated durations
- Develop and maintain electrical maintenance plans covering:
- Preventive maintenance
- Corrective maintenance
- Predictive maintenance
- Statutory maintenance
- Shutdown maintenance
- Prioritize work according to safety, production criticality, equipment condition, and resource availability.
- Coordinate with Electrical Supervisors, Technicians, Operations, Stores, Procurement, Engineering, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure spare parts, tools, materials, specialist services, and other resources are available before scheduled work.
- Monitor work-order progress and ensure timely completion and accurate status updates.
- Adjust maintenance schedules according to operational priorities, equipment condition, and resource availability.
- Maintain and improve Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules.
- Maintain accurate equipment records, Bills of Materials (BOMs), job plans, task lists, and maintenance strategies within the CMMS.
- Ensure maintenance data and supporting documentation remain accurate and up to date.
- Participate in shutdown planning, risk assessments, work-pack development, and post-maintenance reviews.
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of significant electrical failures.
- Support corrective and reliability improvement initiatives.
- Assist with annual electrical maintenance budgets, cost forecasts, and resource planning.
- Assist in preparing maintenance performance reports covering planning, scheduling, backlog, PM compliance, and other maintenance KPIs.
- Perform other duties assigned by management within the scope of the position.
Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Applicants should have:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical maintenance planning, preferably in:
- Mining
- Mineral processing
- Heavy industry
- Similar operational environments
- Ability to read vendor manuals and identify equipment parts successfully.
- Ability to develop detailed and executable electrical maintenance work packages.
- Good knowledge of electrical equipment and systems used in mining and mineral processing plants, including:
- Motors
- MCCs
- Switchgear
- Transformers
- VSDs
- Instrumentation
- Control systems
- Good understanding of maintenance safety requirements.
- Knowledge of risk assessment and Isolation/LOTO procedures.
- Experience with Pronto CMMS or SAP is required.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly:
- Excel
- Word
- Outlook
- Valid approved driver’s licence.
- Ability to operate company/site vehicles where required.
Desired Qualifications
The following are advantageous:
- Electrical Engineering qualification.
- Electrical Trade qualification.
- Diploma in a relevant maintenance or technical field.
- Technical training related to mine process plant equipment.
- Demonstrated experience with mining and mineral-processing plant electrical equipment and systems.
- Willingness to undertake external training relevant to the operation.
