Job Summary

Silver Entertrade Tanzania Limited is seeking a qualified, experienced, and motivated Senior Accountant to join its team in Kiwalani, Dar es Salaam.

The Senior Accountant will oversee financial accounting and reporting, taxation, reconciliations, budgeting, cash flow, accounts receivable and payable, internal controls, audit coordination, and financial management of logistics and ICD-related operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Accounting & Reporting

• Maintain accurate accounting records.
• Prepare financial statements and management reports.
• Perform account reconciliations.
• Ensure timely monthly and financial period closure.

2. Accounts Receivable & Revenue Management

• Oversee customer invoicing and revenue recognition.
• Monitor receivables and follow up on overdue accounts.
• Ensure accurate and complete customer billing.

3. Accounts Payable & Supplier Management

• Review supplier invoices and ensure appropriate approvals.
• Maintain accurate supplier accounts.
• Manage supplier payment schedules.

4. Cash Flow & Banking

• Monitor cash flow and prepare cash-flow forecasts.
• Conduct bank reconciliations.
• Coordinate banking transactions.

5. Tax & Statutory Compliance

• Prepare and submit tax returns and statutory filings on time.
• Ensure compliance with applicable Tanzanian tax laws and statutory requirements.

6. Internal Controls

• Strengthen financial controls and accounting procedures.
• Ensure compliance with internal financial policies.
• Investigate discrepancies and financial irregularities.

7. Budgeting & Management Accounting

• Support preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
• Conduct budget variance analysis.
• Provide financial information to support management decision-making.

8. Audit & Compliance

• Coordinate internal and external audits.
• Provide required audit documentation.
• Ensure timely implementation of audit recommendations.

9. Team Supervision

• Supervise, guide, and mentor junior accounting staff.
• Ensure accounting tasks are completed accurately and within required deadlines.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
• Professional accounting qualification such as CPA(T), ACCA, or equivalent is highly preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a senior accounting position.
• Experience in logistics, freight forwarding, shipping, transportation, warehousing, port, or Inland Container Depot (ICD) operations will be a strong advantage.
• Proven experience in financial reporting, taxation, reconciliations, budgeting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and audit coordination.
• Good knowledge of Tanzanian accounting and taxation requirements.
• Proficiency in accounting software/ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
• High level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Good understanding of Tanzanian tax and statutory requirements.
• Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
• Ability to analyze financial data and identify errors or unusual transactions.
• Strong understanding of internal controls and accounting procedures.

ICD & Logistics Financial Knowledge

Experience or knowledge in the following areas will be advantageous:

• Container storage, handling, transportation, and related charges.
• Cargo handling, warehousing, and depot service revenues.
• Customer deposits, advances, demurrage, detention, and other charges.
• Reconciliation of operational records with invoices and accounting records.
• Cost tracking for equipment, fuel, maintenance, security, utilities, and other depot operating expenses.
• Reconciliation between operations, billing, and finance systems.
• Financial monitoring of major customers, logistics partners, and service providers.
