About the Role

C-Weed Mwani is seeking a Field Officer, Marine Science/Biology to support its expanding work in:

  • Seaweed cultivation
  • Marine resource management
  • Laboratory quality control
  • Research and development (R&D)
  • Agricultural biostimulants
  • Product development

The successful candidate will work extensively in coastal villages and marine environments, collaborating with seaweed farmers, local communities, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor seaweed cultivation activities in assigned coastal areas.
  • Conduct assessments of seaweed farms and cultivation sites.
  • Support identification of seaweed species and other marine flora and fauna.
  • Monitor seaweed growth, health, and environmental conditions.
  • Identify and report factors affecting seaweed productivity.
  • Support marine biodiversity monitoring.
  • Contribute to marine ecosystem conservation, restoration, and sustainable resource use.
  • Work directly with seaweed farmers and coastal communities to improve cultivation practices.
  • Collect, record, and report accurate field data.
  • Support field trials, surveys, and R&D activities.
  • Prepare field reports and communicate findings and recommendations to technical/R&D teams.
  • Be willing to temporarily or permanently relocate to different coastal communities as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should have a:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Marine Biology
    • Marine Science
    • Fisheries
    • Aquaculture
    • Environmental Science
    • Or another closely related discipline.

Practical knowledge or experience in seaweed cultivation, marine fieldwork, fisheries, aquaculture, or coastal resource management is highly desirable.

  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to work effectively with local communities and stakeholders.
  • Be willing to travel extensively and work in different coastal locations.
  • Be physically capable of marine and field activities.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and willingness to learn.

Added Advantages

  • Swimming skills.
  • Diving or snorkelling experience.
  • Seaweed farming experience.
  • Knowledge of seaweed species.
  • GIS/GPS and basic field mapping skills.
  • Experience conducting marine biodiversity or environmental surveys.
  • Knowledge of Tanzania’s coastal environment.
