About the Role
The position supports C-Weed Mwani’s activities in seaweed cultivation, marine resource management, laboratory quality control, R&D, agricultural biostimulants and product development.
The role focuses on developing and validating seaweed-based agricultural biostimulants through plant, soil and field trials.
The successful candidate will plan, conduct, monitor and evaluate trials to determine the effects of biostimulants on plant growth, root development, shoot development, crop productivity and plant resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement laboratory, greenhouse, nursery and field bioassays.
- Develop experimental designs, controls, treatment groups and application protocols.
- Evaluate effects of biostimulants on plant growth.
- Monitor and quantify root growth and development.
- Monitor shoot growth, plant height, biomass and other growth parameters.
- Evaluate crop yield and yield-related characteristics.
- Assess plant responses to environmental and controlled stresses.
- Conduct comparative trials against untreated controls and reference products.
- Establish trial protocols and ensure consistency.
- Collect accurate experimental and field data.
- Maintain trial records, photographs, measurements and supporting documentation.
- Analyse and interpret bioefficacy data.
- Identify meaningful treatment effects.
- Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to the R&D team.
- Identify suitable crops, application rates, application methods and growth conditions.
- Support development and optimization of seaweed-based biostimulants.
- Work with laboratory teams to link plant responses with physicochemical characteristics of products.
- Support field demonstrations and farmer trials.
- Assist in generating scientific evidence for product claims, registration and commercialization.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should have a:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Crop Science
- Agronomy
- Plant Science
- Horticulture
- Soil Science
- Agricultural Sciences
- Or a closely related discipline
Required Technical Competencies
Candidates should have practical knowledge of:
- Plant physiology and crop science
- Soil–plant relationships
- Plant nutrition
- Crop production
- Experimental design
- Plant growth bioassays and bioefficacy testing
- Agricultural data collection
- Basic statistical analysis
- Field trial management
- Measurement of plant growth and yield
Strongly Desirable Knowledge
Experience or knowledge in the following will be beneficial:
