Role Purpose

The Base Management Specialist will support and execute the base management strategy to maximize customer lifetime value and the contribution of the customer base to overall services revenue.

The role will define and execute base management programmes for prepaid and revenue booster initiatives to achieve growth in customer base ARPU through targeted and segmented offers, campaigns and pricing initiatives, including:

  • Data upselling initiatives.
  • Tariff migration initiatives.
  • Other targeted customer base management programmes.

Primary Responsibilities

The role will be responsible for managing the following key areas:

  1. Conduct Customer Value Management (CVM) campaigns to drive base management KPIs, including:
    • Incremental revenue.
    • Engagement through cross-selling and upselling.
    • Inactivity management.
    • Other relevant customer base performance indicators.
  2. Monitor campaigns to ensure that they achieve their intended objectives.
  3. Support day-to-day base management reporting and conduct analysis to drive business initiatives.
  4. Plan and support all Below-the-Line (BTL) SMS communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute end-to-end campaigns focused on cross-selling, upselling and other base management initiatives.
  • Prepare insightful reports on base activities, customer retention and inactivity.
  • Set up and deliver IBRO reports and campaign ROI reports.
  • Consistently monitor overall customer base inactivity, subscribers, usage and propositions.
  • Recommend appropriate actions based on customer base performance.
  • Work with Regional teams to develop proactive, location-specific campaigns based on competitor movements and insights from the field.
  • Prepare and ensure the successful execution of the weekly SMS communication calendar.
  • Support the implementation of M-Pesa initiatives aimed at increasing M-Pesa user penetration.

Qualifications, Core Competencies, Knowledge and Experience

Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Computer Science
    • Statistics
    • Actuarial Science
    • Telecommunications
    • Information Technology
    • Or a related field.

Professional Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in Customer Value Management (CVM) programmes.
  • Telecommunications experience will be an added advantage.

Technical and Analytical Skills

  • Strong analytical skills and business acumen.
  • Strong SQL skills with experience in relational OLTP database models.
  • Knowledge of OLAP is an added advantage.
  • Experience in coding using Python and JavaScript environments is an added advantage.
  • Excellent analytical and logical reasoning skills, with the ability to translate consumer insights into actionable business initiatives.
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation capabilities.

Communication and Stakeholder Management

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Regional teams and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to anticipate customer, competitor and market dynamics.
  • Ability to proactively recommend appropriate commercial actions.
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and identify opportunities for improvement.
