Role Purpose
The M-Pesa Lead Southern will be responsible for managing and growing the Vodacom M-Pesa business across all key performance indicators (KPIs) in the Southern Region.
The role will focus on:
- Growing the M-Pesa customer base across the Southern Region.
- Managing M-Pesa partners and customers through a strategic, on-the-ground commercial plan and ensuring successful implementation.
- Coordinating with stakeholders and managing M-Pesa ATL and BTL campaigns.
- Expanding M-Pesa footprint to maximize customers’ mobile money activities and increase M-Pesa Revenue Market Share.
- Effectively managing M-Pesa partners and maintaining close monitoring of market dynamics, including competitor activities that may affect the M-Pesa business.
- Recommending appropriate mitigation measures in response to market and competitor developments.
- Ensuring penetration of all M-Pesa products.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement the M-Pesa Regional Commercial Plan in line with the overall Vodacom M-Pesa annual strategy.
- Increase the width and depth of M-Pesa distribution to grow M-Pesa customers and revenues in line with regional targets.
- Coordinate sales and distribution activities within the region, including wakalas, super agents and merchants.
- Coordinate and support M-Pesa partners in the region.
- Optimize distribution partners’ returns in terms of ROI while ensuring mutually sustainable and healthy returns.
- Conduct information mining to facilitate M-Pesa performance reviews.
- Develop relevant action plans at the Region, Territory and Cluster levels.
- Prepare weekly reports for management meetings.
- Develop and execute approved quarterly and on-demand tactical plans.
- Ensure continuity of M-Pesa growth despite changing market dynamics.
Qualifications, Core Competencies, Knowledge and Experience
Academic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in a business-related field.
Professional Experience
- 3–5 years of varied experience in Mobile Money on-the-ground sales.
- At least 2 years of experience at a senior level.
Technical and Commercial Knowledge
- Extensive knowledge of the Mobile Financial Services business and value chain.
- Sound understanding of distribution models and route-to-market strategies.
- Strong knowledge of Mobile Money product penetration and on-the-ground execution.
- Strong Mobile Money commercial analysis skills.
- Sound sales and distribution experience, preferably combining FMCG and direct marketing experience.
- High-level planning and execution capabilities.
Management and Interpersonal Skills
- Ability to manage outsourcing partners to deliver business solutions and results.
- Ability to anticipate customer, competitor and market dynamics.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate effectively at all levels within the business.
