Job Summary
The Credit Analyst will be responsible for evaluating and analyzing credit applications from individual and business clients to assess creditworthiness and manage risk exposure.
The role will be based upcountry, specifically in Dodoma or any other assigned region, and will provide dedicated credit support for Special Schemes, including TPDF and other assigned schemes.
The Credit Analyst will also support Head Office Credit business-as-usual activities, including application reviews, exception handling, portfolio follow-ups, stakeholder engagement and operational support.
The role involves conducting comprehensive financial assessments, reviewing documentation, coordinating with regional and Head Office stakeholders, and ensuring that all activities are performed in accordance with the bank’s policies, regulatory guidelines and agreed service standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Evaluation and Analysis of Credit Applications – 60%
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of credit applications from individual and business clients.
- Analyze financial statements, credit histories and relevant documentation to determine creditworthiness and identify potential risks.
- Review loan applications thoroughly for signs of fraud, including verification of client identification, signatures and supporting documentation.
- Assess credit applications within agreed SLA timelines while maintaining operational efficiency.
- Ensure assessments and recommendations comply with the approved Retail Credit Policy and established product processes.
- Make informed credit decisions on loan applications from special schemes and other assignments from the Head of Retail Credit, subject to the delegated approval mandate.
- Conduct credit reference checks and due diligence before processing applications to mitigate risk exposure.
- Ensure employer confirmation is conducted on all applications before recommendations are made.
- Monitor and analyze emerging credit trends to improve assessment methodologies and risk evaluation.
- Verify that loan applications are not processed for any branch or customer suspended from lending due to breaches of established lending triggers.
- Engage relevant stakeholders, including the Legal Team, Treasury Team, Security Management Unit (SMU) and branch network, to ensure secured loan applications are processed within agreed SLAs.
2. Preparation of Offer Letters and Client Communication – 15%
- Draft and issue offer letters and provide timely feedback on approved facilities to clients through branch networks.
- Ensure all secured loans complete the required collateralization procedures before recommendations are submitted for Manager approval.
- Facilitate effective post-approval communication to support smooth client onboarding.
- Review and verify loan documentation, including land rent, valuation reports, insurance, title deeds and mortgages.
- Ensure all securities supporting loans are properly documented, valid and up to date.
3. Analysis of Customer Requests – 5%
- Review and analyze requests for loan restructuring and other financial products in line with the bank’s risk appetite.
- Conduct risk assessments on restructured loans and evaluate their potential impact on portfolio performance.
- Ensure client requests comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
4. People Management – 5%
- Collaborate with team members and branch staff to maintain a positive and productive working environment.
- Ensure succession planning is in place for team members and support professional development.
- Participate in job rotations and provide support to other units within the Retail Credit team as required.
- Conduct training sessions and facilitate knowledge sharing among colleagues.
5. Compliance with Internal Policies and Regulatory Requirements – 10%
- Ensure all credit evaluations and approvals strictly comply with NBC’s internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Stay informed about regulatory changes and implement necessary adjustments to processes.
- Help maintain compliance and minimize audit findings.
- Participate in internal audits and contribute to action plans addressing identified compliance gaps.
6. Additional Responsibilities – 5%
- Accept and perform additional duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to learn and execute additional responsibilities accurately and within specified timelines.
Education and Experience
- Degree or Advanced Diploma in Finance, Banking, Business Administration or a related field.
- At least 1 year of experience in a related field.
