Job Summary

The Business Development Officer will be responsible for the recruitment and management of borrowing customers under the Micro-SME segment, including Kua Nasi, Agriculture and LaRiba.

The role will focus on growing a quality loan portfolio in accordance with the bank’s Credit Policy and Product Procedure Manuals.

Key Accountabilities

1. Growth of Quality Loan Portfolio

  • Onboard eligible borrowing customers in accordance with Product Procedure Manuals.
  • Follow up on pipelines and sales leads to ensure they mature within agreed turnaround times (TAT).
  • Identify, explore and negotiate lending opportunities with existing and new customers.
  • Engage with external and internal business stakeholders to ensure the bank’s interests are properly presented and safeguarded.

2. Credit Underwriting Functions

  • Receive and review credit applications and ensure compliance with the approved checklist of required documents.
  • Liaise with Credit Review Committee (CRC) members to ensure eligible customers are visited to validate submitted information, businesses and collateral.
  • Conduct credit appraisal of Micro-SME applications to determine customers’ creditworthiness in line with Product Procedure Manuals.
  • Ensure credit applications forwarded to Head Office for approval have been reviewed, discussed and deliberated by the CRC as required.
  • Address all issues and queries raised by Head Office Retail Credit or Business teams in collaboration with the CRC without compromising established procedures.

3. Loan Portfolio Management

  • Ensure approved loans comply with approved terms and conditions.
  • Conduct post-disbursement business visits to confirm fund utilization and report or take appropriate action where deviations occur.
  • Ensure customer visits are conducted and reports prepared in accordance with bank guidelines.
  • Maintain proper documentation and records of all approved credit application documents at the branch.
  • Facilitate timely renewal or refinancing of eligible existing facilities.
  • Review the loan portfolio and recommend appropriate interventions to ensure performance remains in line with approved indicators and targets.
  • Support the branch in developing and implementing turnaround or recovery measures aimed at improving the quality of the loan portfolio.

4. Deposit Mobilization and Cross-Selling

  • Mobilize deposits from new and existing Micro-SME customers under Kua Nasi, NBC Shambani and LaRiba segments.
  • Cross-sell the bank’s existing and new products and services.
  • Support liaison activities between internal and external stakeholders.

5. Capacity Building

  • Conduct mass marketing and training activities for potential and existing customers.
  • Conduct product awareness sessions with branches and external customers.

6. Relationship Management and Advisory

  • Develop and maintain business relationships with customers on behalf of the bank.
  • Advise customers on business and lending requirements.
  • Develop appropriate credit structures based on customers’ needs and circumstances.

7. Reporting and Meeting Attendance

  • Attend Credit Review Committee (CRC), loan delinquency and collections meetings as directed by management.
  • Prepare and submit standard periodic reports and any other reports required by management.

Education and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in:
    • Finance
    • Accounting
    • Agribusiness
    • Banking
    • Economics
    • Planning
    • A relevant field
  • Master’s Degree or banking certification will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • At least 1 year of working experience in the banking industry.
  • Experience in Micro-SME lending will be an added advantage.
