About Bulyanhulu Gold Mine

Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is a major underground mining operation in Tanzania operated by Barrick Gold Corporation. The mine is located in the Shinyanga region and forms part of Barrick’s operations in Tanzania.

Barrick is seeking a Geology Technician to join and grow its geology team. The successful candidate will provide technical and field support to geologists and engineers, assisting with geological sampling, core and rock logging, data collection, laboratory preparation, geological mapping, and database management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow all documented Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Coordinate daily drilling logistics, including mobilising work crews on time and ensuring the availability of required safety gear and consumables.
  • Monitor and maintain sufficient stock levels of drilling programme supplies and safety equipment to support uninterrupted operations.
  • Conduct RC, soil, trench, stream and other required sampling activities.
  • Carry out core orientation and marking, drill core sampling, geological measurements, sample processing, sample dispatch and secure sample storage.
  • Supervise field work in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including drill pad preparation and drill rig setup.
  • Collect drill core samples in full compliance with SOPs, accurately recording all required information and applying QA/QC practices to maintain sample integrity.
  • Prepare samples to the required standard before dispatch, ensuring there is no contamination, mixing or loss.
  • Deliver timely and accurate geological data, reports and documentation, including daily and weekly updates.
  • Support business outcomes by ensuring high-quality geological data delivery, good sample quality and strong core recovery.
  • Report geological or operational irregularities to management.
  • Maintain accurate data entry and organised filing systems to ensure traceability and compliance.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to colleagues and management to promote continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Assist with field mapping, sampling, drill-site inspections, drill-site preparation and other work-site activities as directed by the supervisor.
  • Assist geologists in completing assigned geological tasks.
  • Carry out geotechnical measurements on drill core.
  • Conduct geotechnical and geological sample collection, processing, dispatch and storage, including drilling, soil and lithological samples.
  • Perform any other duties or activities assigned by management.
  • Ensure all work is conducted in a corruption-free environment.
  • Ensure all work complies with the company’s Journey to Zero policies, including requirements applicable to employees and contractors.
  • Maintain increased focus on the reporting and investigation of high-potential incidents.
  • Immediately stop unsafe behaviours and proactively communicate safety messages and alerts.
  • Participate in safety interactions, team engagements and safety meetings.
  • Travel to sites throughout Tanzania when required.

Qualification Requirements

  • Diploma in Geology from a recognised institution or equivalent qualification.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
  • Bulyanhulu Mine surface and underground driving permits.
  • Proven ability to independently operate manual-gear transmission light vehicles.

  • Valid driving licence.
