Job Summary

Fema Mining and Drilling Limited is seeking a highly organized and technically competent Maintenance Planner to join its team.

The Maintenance Planner will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities for mining equipment, drilling rigs, and support machinery. The role aims to maximize equipment availability, reliability, and operational efficiency while minimizing downtime and maintenance costs.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance Planning and Scheduling

  • Develop and maintain detailed maintenance schedules covering preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities for heavy mining equipment, drill rigs, vehicles, and plant machinery.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance plans and forecasts.
  • Create work orders, job plans, and maintenance procedures in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Coordinate maintenance activities to ensure timely execution and minimize equipment downtime.

2. Maintenance Coordination

  • Coordinate with Maintenance Supervisors, Technicians, Operations teams, and external contractors to ensure maintenance activities are completed on schedule.
  • Liaise with suppliers and service providers for technical support and spare parts sourcing.
  • Participate in shutdown planning and major overhauls for drilling and mining equipment.

3. Equipment Performance and Reliability

  • Analyze equipment history, failure data, and performance trends to optimize maintenance strategies.
  • Track maintenance KPIs, including:
    • Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
    • Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
    • Equipment availability
    • Maintenance backlog
  • Continuously improve maintenance planning processes and implement maintenance best practices.

4. Spare Parts Management

  • Manage spare parts requirements by identifying critical spares and minimum stock levels.
  • Identify procurement needs and coordinate with relevant teams to ensure required spare parts are available when needed.

5. Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety standards, OEM recommendations, and company policies.
  • Promote adherence to applicable safety regulations and standards within maintenance operations.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in maintenance planning.
  • Experience in the mining, drilling, or heavy equipment industry is preferred.
  • Proven experience working with heavy mobile equipment such as:
    • Excavators
    • Dump trucks
    • Drill rigs
    • Dozers
    • Other heavy mining equipment

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) such as SAP, Pronto, Fiix, or similar systems.
  • Good understanding of mining equipment maintenance practices and reliability principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals, and OEM specifications.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and standards, including OSHA and ISO 45001.
  • Certification in Maintenance Planning or Reliability Engineering, such as CMRP, will be an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent planning, organizing, and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency in CMMS software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance planning and equipment reliability.
