NMB Bank Plc is seeking a Senior Manager; Business Insights & Analytics to act as a strategic analytics partner to the Bank’s business units. The role focuses on transforming data into actionable business insights, developing BI dashboards and predictive models, coordinating analytics requirements with technology teams, and leading the Strategy Analytics team.

Job Purpose

The Senior Manager will own the business side of data analytics, understanding what the Bank’s business units need from data and overseeing the development of analysis, models, dashboards, and insights. The position will work closely with business units and the technology/engineering function to ensure data products support business strategy and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Partnership and Analytics Demand Management

  • Act as the central analytics contact for business units.
  • Understand commercial objectives and agree analytics priorities with Business Heads.
  • Consolidate and prioritize analytics and reporting requirements.
  • Manage delivery expectations, quality, timelines, and competing priorities.
  • Embed analytics into performance reviews, planning, product launches, and campaign evaluations.

2. Data Engineering and Technical Coordination

  • Translate business questions into clear technical requirements covering data sources, definitions, granularity, refresh frequency, and acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate analytics requirements with data engineering, platform, and architecture teams.
  • Act as business owner and acceptance authority for data products.
  • Support improvements in data processing, reporting latency, automation, and self-service reporting.
  • Contribute business requirements to data architecture, tooling, and platform decisions.
  • Maintain consistent data definitions and business logic across the Bank.

3. Business Intelligence, Monitoring and Reporting

  • Define requirements for real-time monitoring dashboards.
  • Monitor transaction spikes and declines, liquidity and float shortages, fraud indicators, and other anomalies.
  • Develop and maintain management dashboards and self-service reporting.
  • Prepare analytics inputs for Management, Board, and regulatory reporting.
  • Support timely and accurate business and financial reporting.

4. Performance Tracking and Business Insights

  • Track strategic initiatives and projects using business analytics.
  • Support annual operating plans and budgets.
  • Produce performance scorecards and rankings by segment, product, channel, region, branch, and relationship team.
  • Identify performance deviations and raise concerns about initiatives that are not meeting objectives.
  • Conduct deep-dive analyses to explain business trends.
  • Provide data-driven recommendations for improving strategies and initiatives.
  • Support business cases and post-implementation reviews.

5. Advanced Analytics and Predictive Modelling

  • Lead development of predictive and optimization models for areas such as:
    • Deposit and liquidity forecasting
    • Transaction volume forecasting
    • Channel capacity planning
    • Pricing and yield optimization
    • Customer churn prediction
    • Cross-selling and upselling
    • Customer lifetime value
    • Next-best-action modelling
    • Credit risk and collections analytics
    • Fraud and anomaly detection
  • Work with technology teams on model deployment, hosting, and performance monitoring.
  • Partner with Risk and Credit teams to ensure appropriate model governance, validation, and documentation.

6. Team Leadership

  • Lead the Strategy Analytics team, including Data Analysts and Data Scientists.
  • Set team priorities and performance standards.
  • Develop, coach, recruit, and retain analytics talent.
  • Promote data-driven decision-making across the Bank.
  • Build analytical capabilities within business units.

7. Data Quality, Governance and Compliance

  • Act as business data steward for the analytics function.
  • Define business data definitions, quality rules, and reconciliation standards.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity for financial and management reporting.
  • Support compliance with Bank of Tanzania regulations and applicable data protection requirements.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and data policies.
  • Coordinate with Internal Audit and Controls on compliance testing.
  • Ensure appropriate data access controls, privacy, confidentiality, and documentation.

Knowledge and Technical Skills

  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Hands-on experience with Python and/or R.
  • Proficiency in BI and visualization tools such as:
    • Power BI
    • Tableau
    • Looker
    • Superset
  • Working knowledge of data pipeline and workflow tools such as Airflow, dbt, or equivalent ETL frameworks.
  • Understanding of data warehousing and data modelling.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Familiarity with machine learning workflows, including feature engineering, model deployment, and monitoring.
  • Understanding of core banking, card, and digital-channel data structures is an added advantage.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or another relevant quantitative field.
  • Master’s degree or relevant professional certification is an added advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in data analytics or business intelligence.
  • At least 2–3 years of team leadership experience.
  • Experience in banking, financial services, payments, or another transaction-intensive environment.
  • Experience working within a matrix structure and delivering outcomes through technology/engineering teams that are not directly managed.
  • Proven experience developing dashboards, analytical products, and predictive models that have been implemented and used.
  • Experience working with regulators, auditors, and financial-services compliance requirements.
