Responsibilities

The Mechanical Fitter will be responsible for:

• Ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and Barrick’s health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
• Reporting all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) issues through incident reports.
• Conducting daily maintenance inspections and executing maintenance of plant equipment.
• Ensuring work completion details are finalized in accordance with work requirements and procedures.
• Ensuring mechanical tools and equipment are maintained and stored in accordance with Barrick and OEM safety standards and procedures.
• Troubleshooting process plant equipment problems and solving engineering problems.
• Ensuring parts and components are selected and replaced as required in accordance with specifications and work plans.
• Ensuring the correct size, type and quantity of materials/components are determined, obtained and inspected for compliance with job specifications.
• Ensuring work is planned in detail, including sequencing and prioritizing, with appropriate consideration given to maintenance of plant security and capacity in accordance with system/site requirements.
• Conducting weekly reviews of planned versus actual work compared with weekly and monthly plans in respective areas/sections.
• Conducting handovers accurately every day.
• Maintaining 100% compliance with required inspection logbooks on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
• Demonstrating competence in the use and operation of all required power tools and hand tools, ensuring they are inspected and maintained daily.
• Responding to and attending to breakdowns on a priority basis as soon as practically possible.
• Maintaining 100% compliance with the Equipment Preventive Maintenance Schedule and carrying out work accordingly on a daily basis.
• Maintaining 100% compliance with Standard Operating Procedures for safe work, including isolation, lockout, confined space, working at height, lifting and rigging, among others.

Qualification Requirements

• A relevant Trade Qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a Technician Certificate from a recognized institution.
• A Mechanical Trade Certification is highly desired.

Experience and Competencies Required

• At least 3 years of post-trade-test experience.
• Minimum of 3 years’ artisan experience in mechanical fitting, preferably working with gold plant equipment.
• Demonstrated competence in the rebuild and servicing of gold plant equipment.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
• Knowledge of hazard identification and risk assessment.
• Ability to understand technical drawings and manuals.
• Possession of a valid light vehicle manual-class driving licence.
• Strong technical and strategic planning experience and background.
• Ability to consistently manage a diversified portfolio in a high-pressure environment.
• Highly professional conduct at all times and the ability to deal with a diverse client base.
• Significant base knowledge of all areas depicted in the profile.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Performance-oriented, strongly motivated and able to maintain a high work standard.
• Strong work ethic and initiative.
