Job Summary

The Manager – Business Performance and Financial Analytics will lead business performance management and financial analytics by providing timely, accurate and forward-looking financial insights to support strategic and operational decision-making.

The role is responsible for planning, budgeting, forecasting, performance analysis, profitability and cost analytics, management reporting and business partnering. The position will proactively identify performance drivers, risks and opportunities, challenge business assumptions and recommend actions to improve profitable business performance.

Main Accountabilities

1. Planning – 40%

The successful candidate will:

  • Understand the key drivers of income and costs and develop and report financial and other performance measures required by local management and Group to monitor the profitability of major products and individual functions.
  • Challenge and reconcile functional budgets to ensure that they are realistic and appropriately stretching.
  • Monitor actual business performance against targets and analyse variances at both entity and functional levels, including Agency Banking, Insurance Banking and other business areas.
  • Reconcile country and Group financial reporting packs and provide management information to functional heads, including variance commentary, to ensure business functions are accountable for their performance.
  • Contribute to the development of the business financial unit strategy for the next 2–3 years by assessing potential improvements to products and services, the existing business environment and anticipated external changes.
  • Support management in identifying opportunities, threats, risks and challenges within the banking and competitive environment by providing financial and non-financial information.
  • Participate in preparation of ALCO planning inputs in accordance with accounting standards.
  • Support the Finance Management Committee in closing audit findings and ensuring effective issue assurance.
  • Review actions taken to address audit findings and personally conduct testing of controls and assessments where required.
  • Review audit work papers before recommending that Internal Audit conduct issue-assurance testing.
  • Educate Finance line managers on the benefits of proactive risk management through the RCA process.
  • Support Finance managers in articulating risks and assessing the effectiveness of mitigating controls.
  • Promote the concept of affordable risk management.
  • Act as a trusted Finance business partner to business and functional heads by providing independent financial challenge and insight to support commercial and strategic decisions.

2. Performance Management – 30%

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare Group reporting flash, BSIS and quarterly schemes.
  • Prepare monthly Balance Sheet Income Statement (BSIS) reports and supporting schedules in accordance with Group requirements.
  • Produce monthly management accounts and present detailed business financial performance analysis.
  • Support and constructively challenge monthly financial results, forecasts and plans for each business line.
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis within agreed deadlines and as requested by senior management.
  • Identify value-adding initiatives in collaboration with Finance and other business leaders.
  • Provide accurate segmented financial information covering income, costs and balance sheet analysis to meet internal and external functional requirements.
  • Prepare accounting and management information requested by ExCo and Group within agreed deadlines and to the required standards.
  • Challenge financial plans and committed costs, identify cost-efficiency opportunities and manage delivery of benefits.
  • Participate in preparation of the Bank’s financial statements in compliance with IFRS.
  • Participate in general ledger reconciliation activities with relevant Finance department clerks.
  • Participate in and challenge FTP, cost accounting, cost allocation and cost apportionment processes and methodologies to ensure fair distribution of economic benefits and costs across functions.
  • Obtain relevant financial data from the Flexcube system.
  • Develop financial models and analytical tools to support business decisions, pricing, investment proposals and strategic initiatives.
  • Use data analytics to identify trends, anomalies, emerging risks and opportunities that may not be evident through standard financial reporting.
  • Drive automation and continuous improvement of management reporting, forecasting and analytical processes.
  • Establish appropriate controls over management information, including data reconciliation, integrity, consistency and traceability to source systems.
  • Partner with Technology and Data teams to improve the availability and quality of financial and management information.
  • Prepare management account reports according to management requirements.

3. Contribute Towards Business Growth – 10%

  • Participate in evaluating new products and performance goals based on financial requirements.
  • Participate in performance reviews and development of business cases for new expansions.
  • Undertake key elements of strategic management activities for the Bank, including identifying how value is created, destroyed and driven within the function.

4. Adherence to Policies and Procedures – 10%

  • Ensure an effective filing system is maintained.
  • Adhere to standard processes and procedures relating to IFRS, taxation and regulatory requirements.
  • Engage with other business pillars to ensure financial data is consistently applied.

5. Career and Personal Development – 10%

  • Take responsibility for financial reporting, financial diligence, forecasting, strategic performance planning, cost management and control for NBC within areas under the role’s responsibility.
  • Meet training objectives established in the personal training and development plan.
  • Keep updated on procedural changes taking place within NBC.
  • Take initiative for personal and professional development.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance or another related field.
  • CPA, ACCA or equivalent NBAA-recognised professional qualification.
  • Experience working in a financial, banking and accounting environment.
  • Knowledge of banking operations.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in banking, including a minimum of 2 years of managerial experience.
