St Constantine’s International School (SCIS) is inviting applications for the position of PE Teaching Assistant – Female. The successful candidate will support pupils, teachers and the wider school community while contributing to students’ academic, physical, social and emotional development.

Role Overview
The Teaching Assistant will assist with students, administration and classroom upkeep under the direction of the lead classroom teacher.
Teaching Assistants are also expected to contribute to the positive development and effective functioning of the school, support its reputation for excellence, and maintain constructive relationships with students, staff, parents and the wider school community.
The role requires an enthusiastic and reflective individual who is willing to participate in lesson planning where appropriate and consider individual student needs and school policies at all times.
The successful candidate should enjoy working with young people during scheduled classes, activities and duty periods and be willing to contribute to co-curricular and boarding activities when required.
Key Responsibilities
Support for Pupils
The Teaching Assistant will:
- Motivate and stimulate children’s learning abilities, including encouraging learning through practical experience.
- Clarify and explain instructions where necessary.
- Assist with the development of children’s personal, social and language abilities.
- Support the development of basic skills, including physical coordination, speech and communication.
- Encourage mathematical and creative development through stories, songs, games, drawing and imaginative play.
- Develop children’s curiosity and knowledge.
- Maintain awareness of the needs of additional-language learners.
- Demonstrate knowledge of individual students, including their social and emotional needs.
- Ensure students’ health, safety and welfare during lessons in accordance with school policies.
- Teach a small number of lessons when required by the school or requested by the Teaching Assistant’s supervisor.
Support for Teachers
- Develop and produce visual aids and teaching resources.
- Organise learning materials and resources and make imaginative use of available resources.
- Assist in preparing materials for lessons.
- Assist the classroom teacher with the learning needs of individual students and groups.
- Provide detailed and regular feedback about pupils to the teacher.
- Contribute to maintaining pupils’ progress records.
- Monitor pupils’ responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement as directed.
- Administer routine assessments and undertake routine marking of pupils’ work.
- File pupils’ worksheets.
- Glue worksheets into books.
- Cover new books.
- Photocopy relevant materials as required.
Support for the Curriculum
- Teach a reasonable number of lessons where appropriate.
- Complete lesson planning and evaluation in conjunction with the class teacher.
- Support the use of ICT in classrooms and ICT laboratories.
- Maintain an environment of respect and positive rapport, actively engaging students in their learning.
- Ensure classroom areas are kept clean and tidy.
- Ensure reading-scheme books are properly organised and maintained.
- Ensure teaching and learning resources are properly cared for.
Support in the Lunch Hall
- Organise pupils’ entry into the lunch hall.
- Organise and supervise handwashing and hygiene for Lower and Upper Primary pupils.
- Maintain appropriate standards of table manners and eating habits.
- Assist pupils, where necessary, with the proper use of cutlery and drinking facilities.
- Assist Lower Primary pupils with cutting meat and other food items where necessary.
- Encourage pupils to leave tables clean.
- Ensure dining areas are left clean and tidy.
Support in the Playground and Outdoor Areas
- Supervise pupils before school, during break times and at lunch times according to the duty rota.
- Move around the designated supervision area and actively monitor pupils.
- Engage children in activities that promote healthy and active lifestyles.
- Regularly rotate activities available to pupils.
- Promote inclusion of all pupils.
- Maintain discipline during lunch breaks and promote adherence to the school’s behaviour policies.
- Report accidents and illnesses to the senior supervisory assistant.
Support for the Boarding House
When assigned to afternoon boarding duties, the Teaching Assistant will:
- Ensure all Primary boarders receive a snack and drink after school.
- Supervise and support pupils with homework.
- Arrange suitable educational activities for pupils who finish their homework early.
- Maintain respect and discipline during preparation/study periods.
- Promote adherence to the boarding house behaviour policy.
Support for the School
- Display pupils’ work to reflect their achievements.
- Supervise pupils during outings and visits when required.
- Attend staff meetings as required.
- Follow safeguarding policies and procedures and be prepared to listen and respond appropriately when students raise concerns.
- Complete relevant safeguarding or other paperwork when necessary.
- Guide students on a day-to-day basis and build trusting relationships with pupils.
- Provide pastoral care and support and help maintain a secure environment for learning.
- Ensure the health and safety of children and staff during activities both inside and outside the school.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties assigned by the teacher or Assistant Head.
Experience and Education
Applicants should have:
- High School qualification – essential.
- A post-high-school qualification such as a certificate, diploma or degree is desirable.
- At least 2 years of experience working in a school is desirable.
- Fluent English – essential.
