Position Overview
Enza Zaden Tanzania Ltd is seeking qualified and motivated candidates for the position of Scout.
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting systematic crop scouting activities to identify and monitor diseases, plant disorders, insect pests, and other crop-related conditions. The role supports effective crop management, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and overall production activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular crop scouting according to company procedures to identify and monitor diseases, insect pests, plant disorders, and other crop health conditions.
- Record and document scouting observations, crop health status, and biological activities accurately and on time.
- Report crop health concerns and scouting findings to production teams and management to support timely corrective actions.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs, including biological control activities.
- Work closely with production, spraying, pollination, greenhouse, and other relevant teams to support crop protection and production activities.
- Identify and report crop, irrigation, greenhouse, and other production-related issues observed during scouting.
- Ensure compliance with hygiene, health and safety, quality, environmental, and farm protocols.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of crop monitoring and production practices.
Qualifications and Skills
Applicants should possess:
- Diploma in Horticulture, Agronomy, Crop Production, Plant Science, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of relevant experience in crop scouting, crop production, horticulture, greenhouse production, plant protection, or a related agricultural environment will be an added advantage.
- Good understanding of crop health, plant diseases, insect pests, plant disorders, and crop production practices.
- Knowledge or practical experience in Integrated Pest Management (IPM), biological control, and sustainable crop protection practices is an added advantage.
- Strong observation and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and Swahili.
- Ability to work effectively with different production teams.
- Good computer skills and ability to use digital or manual systems for data collection, reporting, and record keeping.
