Objective of the Role
The Technician 1 – Condition Monitoring will:
- Assist the Underground Equipment Reliability Engineer in delivering targets through condition monitoring activities.
- Support the reliability of mobile and fixed equipment by providing day-to-day onsite monitoring of key components to support maintenance strategic decision-making.
- Monitor mobile and fixed equipment onsite and support the implementation of equipment reliability strategies through condition monitoring programmes.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Setting up mechanical and electrical predictive maintenance activities, including:
- Vibration analysis
- Infrared thermography
- Precision alignment
- Ultrasound testing
- Dye penetrant testing
- Magnetic particle inspection
- Interpretation of oil analysis results
- Determining appropriate testing procedures for different types of equipment.
- Entering equipment nameplate and bearing information into the system.
- Monitoring fixed and mobile equipment used in the mining industry.
- Using condition monitoring equipment, including computerized vibration data collectors, thermography cameras, sound analysers and ultrasonic thickness gauges.
- Performing component inspections using MPI, LPI and ultrasonic flaw detection.
- Assisting with balancing and alignment activities.
- Monitoring and collecting oil and grease samples.
- Assisting in preparing action notes and reports.
- Following monitoring checklists and work orders.
- Identifying problems in lubrication systems, leaks and changes in lubricant colour.
- Completing all weekly condition monitoring plans.
- Reporting any tool malfunction, damage or reallocation.
- Ensuring all tools are properly calibrated.
- Keeping tools clean and safely stored.
- Keeping tools updated with relevant technology and requirements.
- Protecting and registering all tools.
- Working with mechanical maintenance personnel to schedule and carry out repairs.
- Working with electrical maintenance personnel to schedule and carry out repairs.
- Working with maintenance planning personnel to schedule and execute planned tasks.
- Ensuring all relevant safety requirements are observed.
- Immediately reporting abnormal equipment conditions.
- Performing post-remediation testing to confirm that the desired results have been achieved.
- Exercising the authority to stop unsafe work when required.
- Demonstrating work behaviours consistent with AngloGold Ashanti values, policies and applicable legal requirements.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education and Professional Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- Diploma or FTC in Mechanical Engineering or Automobile Engineering.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automobile Engineering will be an added advantage.
- Vibration Analysis certification.
- Thermography Analysis certification.
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) certification in:
- Penetrant Testing (PT)
- Magnetic Testing (MT)
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Certified Reliability Engineering courses, such as MLT and NDT.
- Certified Condition Monitoring courses, such as Vibration Analysis and Thermography Analysis.
- A valid Tanzanian driving licence.
Experience
Applicants should have:
- At least 2 years of working experience in the mining industry.
- Experience in asset management and systems reliability monitoring.
- Experience working on both fixed and mobile equipment.
Knowledge and Skills
The ideal candidate should have:
- Ability to use various condition monitoring equipment, including computerized vibration data collectors, thermography cameras, sound analysers and ultrasonic thickness gauges.
- Computer proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and CMMS software.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong teamwork and cooperation skills.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to act as a supervisor when assigned.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with team members across functional departments.
- Commitment to applying full capability to work assigned by the supervisor.
- Ability to advise the supervisor of situations or conditions that could create obstacles to, or opportunities for, the work of the management team or company.
- Ability to identify abnormal equipment conditions and lubrication system issues.
