2. Job Overview
Coca-Cola Kwanza Ltd is inviting applications from talented and qualified professionals for the position of Production Team Leader in its Manufacturing Department, based in Dar es Salaam.
The successful candidate will report directly to the Production Manager and will be responsible for leading production teams, ensuring compliance with operational and quality standards, maintaining plant and equipment performance, solving production problems, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
3. Key Duties and Responsibilities
A. World-Class Manufacturing (WCM)
- Drive World-Class Manufacturing initiatives during the assigned shift.
- Communicate work-practice deployment plans and ensure team members understand and support them.
- Coach team members on implementing work practices and solving operational problems.
- Ensure team members implement and comply with divisional standards.
- Conduct work-practice maturity assessments and line walkabouts to verify that best practices are correctly applied and consistently maintained.
- Identify and benchmark best practices internally.
B. Operating and Process Control
- Ensure team members understand and comply with operational, quality, and process standards.
- Ensure adherence to work instructions, maintenance schedules, work-practice deployment plans, and performance targets.
- Review and approve shift performance reports covering Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Safety Management (QCDSM).
- Ensure all administrative activities required to support the production team are completed.
C. Maintenance of Plant and Equipment
- Verify that team members perform required autonomous maintenance tasks and running repairs according to work instructions and maintenance schedules.
- Ensure the process artisan carries out repairs during the shift.
- Coach team members on autonomous maintenance and support maintenance specialists as required.
- Ensure production lines are ready for maintenance and restart on time after maintenance activities.
- Allocate team members to specific autonomous maintenance tasks.
- Initiate emergency work orders and contribute to their completion.
- Ensure the process artisan participates in maintenance and cleaning days in support of maintenance specialists.
- Participate in post-maintenance analysis.
D. Quality Control and Analysis
- Ensure team members understand and comply with established quality standards.
- Verify that routine quality checks and analyses are performed according to work instructions.
- Analyse quality trends to identify problems and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Ensure problem-solving activities identify and eliminate the root causes of quality issues.
- Ensure relevant quality information is recorded manually or electronically according to the required schedule.
E. Problem-Solving
- Coach and support team members in applying appropriate problem-solving techniques, including the 5 Whys, quick fixes, and One Point Lessons (OPLs).
- Determine appropriate actions when problems are escalated, including engaging specialist resources where necessary.
- Verify that resolved problems have been eliminated.
- Ensure work instructions are updated following the resolution of problems.
- Escalate issues that cannot be resolved at shift level to the Level 2 team through technical meetings.
F. Continuous Improvement
- Ensure Short Interval Control (SIC) mechanisms are in place to track and monitor waste, including mass balance.
- Incorporate waste-reduction and process-improvement targets into team objectives.
- Ensure team members understand improvement targets.
- Track improvement goals and display them in meeting rooms.
- Ensure process-improvement and waste-reduction opportunities recorded on the gap list are properly evaluated.
- Engage specialist resources where necessary to assess improvement opportunities.
G. People Management and Development
- Coach team members on the correct execution of operational and technical tasks.
- Ensure team members monitor process inputs and outputs to achieve the required results.
- Verify that required quality checks are completed and recorded in the appropriate systems.
- Identify team members’ training needs and ensure they are addressed through individual meetings and performance reviews.
- Implement and drive performance management practices.
4. Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Qualified artisan status.
- At least three years of technical and leadership experience in a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Good leadership abilities.
- Strong analytical skills.
- A demonstrated high level of integrity.
