The Barrick Africa Middle East team is seeking to recruit a Process Plant Operator II to join its operations and contribute to the safe and efficient running of the mineral processing plant.

3. Key Responsibilities

The Process Plant Operator II will be responsible for the following duties:

  1. Operate the assigned plant circuit within specified operating parameters and in accordance with metallurgical guidance.
  2. Deliver high-quality work safely and productively at all times.
  3. Monitor operating equipment and troubleshoot operational problems.
  4. Report equipment failures and abnormalities for repair.
  5. Collect and submit hourly and shift samples.
  6. Handle, prepare, and mix reagents.
  7. Operate mobile equipment used in plant operations.
  8. Comply with safety and environmental guidelines.
  9. Take hourly readings of plant valuables and analyse the results.
  10. Conduct accurate shift handovers at the beginning and end of each shift.
  11. Participate positively in planned and unplanned plant shutdowns.
  12. Participate in mill relining activities.
  13. Identify potential hazards and recommend or implement appropriate solutions.
  14. Maintain general housekeeping in the workplace.
  15. Participate in on-the-job training, structured training, performance reviews, and professional development activities to maintain the skills and capacity required for the role.

4. Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should meet the following educational and technical requirements:

  • Form Four (IV) secondary education.
  • A Diploma in Mineral Processing will be an added advantage.
  • A Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Trade Certificate in Mineral Processing, or an equivalent qualification, will be an added advantage.
  • Awareness of the Mines Health and Safety Act.

5. Experience and Competencies

Candidates should demonstrate relevant experience and competencies in the following areas:

  • At least one year of process operation experience in mineral processing.
  • Two years of process plant operation experience.
  • Two years or more of experience in chemical and reagent handling and mixing.
  • Two years or more of mobile equipment operation experience will be an added advantage.
  • Two years or more of experience in Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) operations.
  • Two years or more of experience in polywelding.
  • Experience operating comminution, crushing, and grinding circuits.
  • Experience in heavy media separation, gravity, or concentrator operations.
  • Experience operating cyclones and classification processes.
  • Experience in mill relining activities will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in raw material and stockpile operations.
  • Experience in communication and documentation management.
  • Computer application and software skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
