Job Objective

The Technician 1 – Coreshed will provide technical support in handling and processing drilling samples at the Geology Coreshed and assist with related exploration activities.

The role involves monitoring work quality, ensuring compliance with established standards, and planning routine and daily work schedules for subordinate staff to ensure activities are completed according to the required procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform core marking and geotechnical logging of drill cores before samples are submitted to the laboratory.
• Provide technical support to field mapping teams and drilling crews when required.
• Validate and ensure that all collected drillhole information is accurately documented and securely stored in geological databases and systems.
• Verify that drilling samples received from the field are properly documented and stored in the Coreshed area.
• Plan routine and daily work schedules for subordinates to ensure activities follow established procedures and quality standards.
• Conduct toolbox meetings and ensure compliance with workplace safety standards and procedures.
• Organize teams to identify workplace hazards and ensure appropriate control measures are implemented.
• Promptly report injuries, illnesses, incidents, and suspected cases of employees being unfit for work.
• Maintain good housekeeping in the Coreshed, including the proper storage and handling of samples.
• Reconcile sample quality, including core marking and recovery.
• Coach and provide on-the-job training to subordinates to develop technical skills and maintain a capable, productive team.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education

Applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements:

• Secondary education; or
• A Diploma in Mineral Exploration from a recognized institution.

Additional requirement: Applicants must be Tanzanian citizens. A valid Tanzanian driving licence will be an added advantage.

Work Experience

The required experience depends on the applicant’s educational qualification:

• Diploma holders: At least two years of experience in core marking and geotechnical logging, or field mapping and exploration drilling involving Diamond and Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling.
• Secondary education holders: At least three years of experience in core marking and geotechnical logging, or field mapping and exploration drilling involving Diamond and RC drilling.

Knowledge and Skills

Candidates should demonstrate:

• Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
• Good understanding of departmental and site-wide Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standards and their implementation.
• Ability to coordinate and lead small teams in the workplace.
• Knowledge of core marking, geotechnical logging, and drilling sample handling procedures.
