TADB

The Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) plays a critical role as the national Apex bank for agriculture. The Business Development Officer II position for the Smallholder Credit Guarantee Scheme (SCGS) is a specialized role focused on de-risking agricultural lending to help small farmers who traditionally lack collateral.

Below is the organized breakdown of this opportunity to help you prepare your application.

Role Overview: Business Development Officer II (SCGS)

The core mission of this role is to act as the bridge between TADB and Partner Financial Institutions (PFIs) like commercial and community banks. You will manage the guarantee portfolio that provides up to 50% cash cover for loans extended to smallholder farmers and agribusinesses.

1. Key Responsibility Areas

  • Credit Risk Analysis: Performing deep due diligence on guarantee requests to ensure business viability and repayment capacity.

  • PFI Relationship Management: Serving as the primary contact for partner banks, providing them with technical assistance and capacity building.

  • Claims & Recovery: Validating payout claims when defaults occur and working with banks on “turnaround strategies” for struggling borrowers.

  • Product Innovation: Identifying gaps in the market to design new Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) guarantee products.

2. Candidate Profile: Requirements & Skills

TADB is looking for a blend of financial analytical skills and a deep heart for rural development.

Category Requirements
Education Bachelor’s in Economics, Finance, Agricultural Economics, or Accounting.
Experience 2+ years in agricultural finance, credit analysis, or banking.
Technical Skills Proficiency in financial modeling, credit appraisal, and risk management.
Added Advantage Master’s Degree or professional certifications (CPA, CFA, ACCA).
Sectors Strong knowledge of Tanzanian agricultural value chains (Crops, Livestock, Fisheries).

3. Application Instructions

You must submit your application by 4:00 PM on Wednesday, December 31st, 2025.

4. Strategic Tip for Your Letter

Since the SCGS is a “risk-sharing” facility, your application letter should emphasize your ability to balance development goals with financial prudence. TADB isn’t just looking for an accountant; they want someone who understands how a guarantee can “unlock” a loan for a farmer who only has their crop as a promise of payment.
