Position Overview

The Procurement and Logistics Officer is responsible for managing end-to-end procurement and logistics operations. The role ensures effective sourcing, supplier management, inventory control, and transportation coordination while maintaining compliance with company policies and legal requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Procurement Management

  • Source, evaluate, and select suppliers and vendors
  • Prepare RFQs, RFPs, and purchase orders
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms for cost efficiency and quality
  • Maintain supplier relationships and monitor performance
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and regulations (including PPRA)

Logistics & Inventory Management

  • Manage inventory levels to avoid shortages or excess stock
  • Coordinate transportation, warehousing, and distribution activities
  • Track shipments and resolve delays or customs issues
  • Optimize logistics routes and reduce operational costs
  • Maintain accurate procurement and inventory records

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with Tanzanian procurement laws and ethical standards
  • Prepare procurement reports, budgets, and cost analyses
  • Conduct audits of procurement and logistics processes

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Collaborate with operations, finance, and HR teams
  • Support tendering and contract management processes
  • Assist in supply chain risk and disruption management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in procurement or logistics
  • Experience in mining, construction, or heavy equipment industries is an advantage
  • CIPS certification or equivalent preferred
  • CSCP or logistics certification is an added advantage

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP)
  • Strong MS Office skills
  • Experience with inventory management systems

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills
  • Excellent organization and time management
  • Knowledge of procurement laws and customs procedures
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills in English and Kiswahili
  • Problem-solving and decision-making ability

Working Conditions

  • Office-based role with site visits and supplier meetings
  • Occasional travel to remote locations
  • May require extended working hours during peak procurement periods
