🎯 Job Purpose
The Planning Manager is a senior technical leadership role responsible for:
- Developing and managing the Life of Mine (LOM) plan
- Optimizing both open pit and underground mining operations
- Ensuring strategic alignment of mine planning, production, and value creation
- Leading integrated planning teams and improving resource utilization
⚒️ Key Responsibilities
📊 1. Mine Planning & Strategy
- Develop and optimize Life of Mine (LOM) plans
- Analyze multiple mining scenarios to maximize asset value
- Align mine planning with AngloGold Ashanti strategic goals
- Develop production schedules, capital, and operating cost models
- Support annual business planning and budgeting cycles
🧠 2. Technical Studies & Analysis
- Lead mining studies (design, sequencing, infrastructure, economics)
- Evaluate mining methods, cut-off grades, and equipment strategies
- Develop business cases for capital investment projects
- Report mineral reserves (S-K 1300 / JORC / SAMREC / NI 43-101 compliance)
👥 3. Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Lead and develop the Strategic Planning team
- Identify skills gaps and implement training and development plans
- Build succession pipelines and organizational structure
- Foster collaboration between open pit and underground teams
📈 4. Performance & Reporting
- Monitor and manage delivery of study timelines and budgets
- Produce monthly strategic planning reports for leadership
- Identify risks, delays, and mitigation strategies
- Ensure planning systems support efficiency and performance tracking
🚀 5. Value Creation & Innovation
- Drive AngloGold Ashanti’s Full Asset Potential (FAP) initiatives
- Identify innovation opportunities in mine design and technology
- Promote continuous improvement in mining operations
- Ensure “safety by design” principles in all planning activities
🤝 6. Stakeholder Engagement
- Build relationships with government, regulators, contractors, and consultants
- Collaborate across AGA operations and business units
- Support effective communication of strategic mining plans
🎓 Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in:
- Mining Engineering (preferred)
- Or related engineering discipline
📌 Experience Requirements
- Minimum 15 years’ experience
- Open pit mining
- Underground mining
- Mine planning and evaluation
- Experience in mine optimization and study management
📜 Professional Certification
- Competent Person under:
- S-K 1300 / JORC / SAMREC / NI 43-101 standards
