🎯 Role Objective

The Specialist – Mine Planning (OP & UG) supports both Open Pit and Underground Planning teams to:

• Deliver the Life of Mine (LOM) plan
• Integrate mine planning across OP and UG operations
• Optimize production value and resource utilization
• Strengthen team capability and technical performance
• Ensure alignment with strategic mining objectives

⚒️ Key Responsibilities

📊 1. Mine Planning & Optimization

• Support development of mine value optimization options
• Integrate open pit and underground mine plans
• Ensure ore blending meets approved production budgets
• Assist in mineral reserve reporting (S-K 1300 compliance)

📈 2. Performance Monitoring & Budget Support

• Monitor KPIs and identify variances from plan
• Support accuracy of annual budgets (±5% target)
• Adjust designs, schedules, and plans where required
• Ensure alignment with Life of Mine strategy

---

🧠 3. Technical Analysis & Systems Integration

• Improve planning systems and workflows
• Reduce inefficiencies and rework
• Support mine design, scheduling, and optimization processes
• Contribute to cost estimation and strategic planning

---

👥 4. Team Development

• Train, coach, and mentor planning teams
• Build technical capacity within OP and UG teams
• Promote knowledge sharing and cross-functional collaboration

---

🚀 5. Value Creation & Strategy

• Support Full Asset Potential (FAP) initiatives
• Contribute to innovation in mine planning
• Assist in implementing strategic improvements

🛡️ 6. Safety & Compliance

• Ensure adherence to safety, health, and environmental standards
• Conduct risk assessments and safety audits
• Investigate incidents and support corrective actions

---

🤝 7. Stakeholder Engagement

• Maintain relationships with internal teams, contractors, regulators, and government bodies
• Support issue resolution and operational alignment

🎓 Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in:
  • Mining Engineering or related discipline
• Registration with Engineering Registration Board (advantage/requirement depending on jurisdiction)
• Competent Person certification under:
  • S-K 1300 / JORC / SAMREC / NI 43-101

📌 Experience Requirements

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in:
  • Open Pit and Underground mining operations
  • Mine planning and optimization
• Strong exposure to mine evaluation and strategic planning

💻 Technical Skills

Experience with mining software such as:

• Deswik
• Vulcan
• Mineable Stope Optimiser (MSO)
• Studio UG
• EPS
• Ventsim
• Micromine / Spry / Rapid Reserver

---

🧠 Core Competencies

• Mine design and scheduling
• Resource and reserve estimation
• Cost estimation and budgeting
• DCF and financial analysis
• Geological and geotechnical understanding
• Safety and environmental compliance
• Strong communication and reporting skills
