Job Purpose

The Business Strategy Manager leads:

  • Stakeholder engagement and advocacy initiatives
  • Strategic planning and execution for Tanzania operations
  • High-level business analysis to improve performance

The role focuses on strengthening the organization’s visibility, partnerships, and strategic direction while supporting decision-making at senior management level.


Key Responsibilities

Fundraising, Grants & Donor Management

  • Identify grant funding needs aligned with strategic objectives
  • Develop and submit grant proposals
  • Manage grant allocation, claims, and disbursement processes
  • Act as primary contact for donor engagement
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements and reporting obligations

Strategy Development

  • Support development and execution of long-term strategic plans
  • Lead cross-functional strategic initiatives
  • Drive macroeconomic strategy planning (short to medium term)
  • Conduct industry and competitive analysis in the energy sector

Business Planning & Performance Support

  • Lead special projects and strategic initiatives from the Country Director
  • Prepare reports for governance forums (MBR, QBR, War Room, etc.)
  • Monitor business performance and recommend corrective actions
  • Develop performance management tools (e.g., ROI analysis)
  • Maintain dashboards and data systems for decision-making

Networking & Representation

  • Represent Ignite Energy Access in stakeholder engagements
  • Build partnerships with government, donors, academia, and media
  • Participate in national and international energy forums
  • Lead advocacy initiatives for renewable energy
  • Develop and implement Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy

Team Management

  • Identify staffing needs and recruit team members
  • Manage team performance and development
  • Foster a high-performance and collaborative team environment

Knowledge and Experience

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years’ management experience
  • At least 2 years working with senior management
  • Experience in building strategic and operational partnerships
  • Strong understanding of government systems and stakeholder engagement
  • Proven ability in strategic thinking and leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Development Finance
    • Economics
    • Public Administration
    • Political Science / Social Policy
    • Or related field
  • Master’s degree in Business or related field is an added advantage
