CORE JOB DESCRIPTION
Transmission Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, maintaining, and upgrading systems that transfer electrical power or telecommunications data.
KEY TASKS
- Maintain and troubleshoot IP Core Network, OTN/SDH/DWDM, transmission network problems and related equipment
- Conduct performance monitoring and configuration management of transmission systems
- Manage traffic grooming and restoration activities
- Perform routine inspections of sites, systems and equipment in accordance with approved maintenance schedule
- Conduct preventive maintenance in line with manufacturer recommendations and contractual requirements
- Attending and resolving escalated faults in a timely manner in accordance with the agreed service level agreement (SLA) response and restoration times
- Complying with all approved safety procedures and regulations when performing any maintenance activities
- Providing advance notification to the Network Management Centre (NMC) prior to accessing any site and reporting upon completion of work
- Submitting regular updates to the NMC on the status of faults under investigation or repair
- Preparing and submitting a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) report for all major or recurrent faults, detailing the cause, corrective actions taken, and recommendations to prevent recurrence
EDUCATION
- Degree in Telecommunication, Communication, Electronics or related Engineering discipline
- Registered by ERB as professional Engineer
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 5 Years of experience in transmission network specifically working with Huawei systems as a IP Network Engineer, OTN/SDH/DWDM transmission network for Huawei systems as a second-level support engineer
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of TCP/IP, IP/MPLS and routing protocols including (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), switching and network security
- Knowledge of IP/MPLS and NMS configuration tools
- Possession of Huawei certification including HCIA (Huawei Certified ICT Associate) or Huawei Certified ICT Professional (HCIP)
