Program Background
TAHA is implementing the Joint Programme “Transforming Seaweed Farming through Integrated Financial Solutions for Enhanced Food Systems in Zanzibar”, in partnership with WFP, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, FAO, IFAD, and UN Women.
The program aims to transform seaweed farming into a commercially viable, inclusive, and climate-resilient sector through financial inclusion, market access, and capacity building. Target groups include seaweed farmers, cooperatives, women, youth, and vulnerable communities in Unguja and Pemba.

Role Summary
The BDS Officer will support entrepreneurship development, cooperative strengthening, financial literacy training, governance systems, and market linkage facilitation for seaweed farming communities.
Key Responsibilities
Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy
- Coordinate training on budgeting, record-keeping, and business planning
- Support farmers in developing bankable business plans
Cooperative Governance
- Facilitate training on inclusive leadership and gender-responsive governance
- Support development and improvement of cooperative by-laws
- Strengthen accountability and internal management systems
Market Linkages
- Connect cooperatives with buyers, processors, and markets
- Support participation in trade fairs and B2B events
Capacity Building
- Support Community-Based Trainers under the Certified Financial Educators (CFE) Programme
- Coordinate field-level training activities
Monitoring and Reporting
- Collect and analyze project data
- Prepare progress reports
- Document lessons learned and success stories
Stakeholder Coordination
- Work with district authorities, extension officers, and financial institutions
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Cooperative Management, Community Development, Economics, or Rural Development
Experience
- At least 3 years of experience supporting MSMEs or farmer groups
- Experience in training and community engagement
- Experience in seaweed sector is an advantage
- Candidates from Zanzibar are preferred
Skills
- Strong communication (written and verbal)
- Good planning and coordination skills
- Strong interpersonal abilities
- Training facilitation skills
Additional Requirement
- Ability to ride a motorcycle or drive a vehicle is an advantage
