Job Summary

The Finance Business Partner is responsible for driving finance business performance and analytics for Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB – Global Markets) and Treasury. This role requires a deep understanding of the key drivers of the balance sheet, income statement, and related performance indicators. The position involves delivering critical financial insights to the Head of BP&A, Director of Corporate, Director of Markets, and Country Treasury, while ensuring ongoing revenue assurance through effective month-end processes, product profitability analysis, and accurate financial recognition.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Insights & Strategic Risk Management (50%)

  • Maintain accurate financial reports and management accounts for all Corporate and Investment Banking products.

  • Provide business partners with a timely and accurate reflection of their performance, revenue, cost, and profitability.

  • Offer objective analytical insight into business performance, highlighting risks and opportunities.

  • Collaborate with the strategy team to align strategic agendas with financial impacts.

  • Support new business and product governance by participating in committees to provide financial perspectives and monitor benefits realization.

  • Assist in preparing management packs and quantitative reports for FCMC, MBR, Flash calls, Absa Group Limited, and other bank committees.

  • Actively resolve data discrepancies and inconsistencies with internal business customers to ensure complete financial accuracy.

  • Prepare non-financial information (Level 2 data) and perform deep-dives into systems and processes to guide decision-making.

  • Identify and escalate risk issues timely within the business support and analytics unit, performing ad-hoc analysis as needed.

Planning and Performance Management (20%)

  • Assist in target setting and proactively monitor performance achievement.

  • Partner with the business to identify risk factors impacting target delivery and establish corrective actions.

  • Provide mid-month outlooks/flashes at least three times a month to accelerate high-performance behaviors.

  • Support the business in understanding and analyzing cost line key drivers against budgets.

  • Report financial and other performance metrics directly to Absa Africa.

Competitive Analysis & Macro Factors (10%)

  • Collect and analyze market data and competitive trends within CIB to enhance product profitability.

  • Analyze publicly available data, macro factors, and Bank of Tanzania (BOT) reports regarding sector deposits, loans, advances, and currency mixes.

  • Perform market intelligence to guide strategic choices and identify competitor and industry trends.

Financial Controls and Compliance (10%)

  • Collaborate with financial controls to improve existing processes, infrastructure, and capabilities.

  • Ensure financial information complies with IFRS, tax acts, and internal accounting guidelines.

  • Map products accurately to correct profit centers/business segments for balance sheet and revenue consistency.

  • Manage financial segmentation fairly each month, ensuring Tanzania Cube (TM1) results align perfectly with SAP and FR packs.

  • Automate key reports using Power BI or other bank-approved data analytics tools.

Fund Transfer Pricing – FTP (5%)

  • Configure the FTP system (LUM) in line with the ALCO-approved FTP policy.

  • Ensure smooth FTP computation for fair economic benefit and cost distribution across functions.

  • Implement behavioral profiles and other key FTP assumption changes under appropriate governance, communicating results to stakeholders before posting.

Team Support, Risk, and Controls (5%)

  • Take ownership of personal development, training, and career progression while supporting team members.

  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, internal Absa policies, and the Absa Operational Risk Framework.

  • Report risk events, identify process vulnerabilities to prevent errors, and perform assigned snap checks.

Job Requirements

Education & Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirement: Higher Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or related fields.

  • Professional Certification: Professional Accounting qualifications such as CPA or ACCA will be an added advantage.

  • Advanced Degree: A Master’s degree in business studies is an added advantage.

Experience & Technical Skills

  • At least 4 years of experience in Business Finance and Analytics, Auditing, Financial Accounting, or Strategic Planning.

  • Practical knowledge of Power BI is an added advantage.

  • Strong analytical, reporting, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines without compromising on data accuracy.
