Job Summary

Coordinate environmental monitoring activities and enforce compliance with all relevant regulations across company operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

• Manage environmental regulatory compliance for both Plant and Mines operations.

• Liaise with external agencies regarding all environmental compliance requirements.

• Assist the HSE Manager in identifying and assessing risks and potential environmental hazards across all aspects of plant operations, providing inputs for mitigation.

• Conduct periodic plant inspections to assist the HSE Manager in maintaining environmental compliance.

Environmental Operations & Monitoring

• Coordinate environmental management activities in line with company Policy, Environmental Management Standards, as well as industry and international standards and guidelines.

• Monitor and check emissions in all plant sections to ensure air quality compliance.

• Monitor and conduct regular water and wastewater testing for compliance.

• Ensure proper waste management and overall plant housekeeping.

• Oversee dust suppression activities at the Mines areas.

• Ensure the systematic implementation of the Mines Closure Plan.

• Monitor and manage contractor activities associated with environmental performance.

• Ensure the successful implementation of proposed mitigation measures as outlined in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Audit (EA).

Strategy, Training & Reporting

• Ensure environmental management initiatives, programs, procedures, trainings, work practices, and controls are implemented, monitored for effectiveness, and continuously improved.

• Create strategic environmental plans that include suggested improvements to existing infrastructure and business processes.

• Develop and deliver environmental information and training packages, participating in DCLT HSE meetings to deliver training as required.

• Participate in incident investigations and prepare formal reports on findings, including recommendations to the Head of HSE.

• Execute approved environmental corrective actions to prevent future incidents.

• Collect, analyze, and maintain accurate and up-to-date environmental records.

• Produce routine environmental reports for management and prepare comprehensive annual environmental monitoring and compliance reports.

• Perform any other HSE-related duties as assigned by the HSE Manager.

Competencies Required (Qualifications & Experience)

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies or an equivalent field, with additional professional qualifications in Environment.

• Experience: 5 or more years of experience in environmental functions.

• Certifications: Certification or license from NEMC or another recognized HSE body (e.g., being a Certified Environmental Expert) will be an added advantage.

• Standards Knowledge: Good working knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 will be an added advantage.

• Sector Background: Prior knowledge of the cement manufacturing industry will be considered an added advantage.

• Languages: Fluent in both English and Swahili languages.
