Job Summary

The Transport Officer is responsible for the safe, timely, and cost-effective transportation of staff, documents, cargo, and company assets using the company crew van and other assigned vehicles.

The role supports ECSL’s ship agency, supply chain, and consultancy operations through reliable driving services, transport coordination, vehicle care, and compliance management.

The successful candidate may occasionally be required to work beyond normal hours to meet vessel and shipping deadlines.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Driving & Transport Duties

  • Safely transport management, staff, and company visitors to meetings, ports, airports, government offices, and other business locations as assigned.
  • Operate the company crew van for:
    • Staff pick-up and drop-off
    • Airport transfers
    • Group travel services
  • Ensure punctuality according to approved schedules.
  • Collect and deliver urgent:
    • Documents
    • Samples
    • Spare parts
    • Light cargo
      between the office, port, TRA, banks, and client premises.
  • Plan efficient travel routes to minimize fuel costs and save time.
  • Monitor traffic conditions and adjust schedules when necessary with prior approvals.

2. Logistics & Administrative Support

  • Maintain daily vehicle logbooks capturing:
    • Mileage
    • Fuel usage
    • Destinations
    • Purpose of trips
  • Submit monthly logs to the HR & Admin Officer by the 5th of every month.
  • Monitor fuel consumption and reconcile fuel receipts according to company policy.
  • Coordinate with the Administration team on:
    • Vehicle scheduling
    • Booking confirmations
    • Delay notifications
  • Assist with:
    • Port passes
    • Government office submissions
    • Collection of permits and licenses

3. Vehicle Care & Compliance

Maintenance

  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections including:
    • Oil
    • Water
    • Brakes
    • Tires
    • Lights
  • Report mechanical faults immediately.
  • Ensure vehicles are serviced according to mileage and maintenance schedules.

Cleanliness & Safety

  • Keep the crew van clean at all times (inside and outside).
  • Ensure the following safety items are always available and valid:
    • First aid kit
    • Fire extinguisher
    • Spare tire
    • Vehicle tools

Compliance & Regulations

  • Adhere to all Tanzanian traffic laws and company road safety policies.
  • Coordinate renewal of:
    • Insurance
    • Road licenses
    • Inspection certificates
  • Attend to incidents and accidents in compliance with legal and company requirements.

4. General Support Duties

  • Assist in moving office assets, furniture, and equipment during office arrangements or events.
  • Maintain confidentiality of:
    • Passengers
    • Company documents
    • Business information
  • Follow all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies.
  • Perform other transport-related duties assigned by the HR & Admin Officer.

  • 100% complete log submission by the 5th monthly

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • NIT/VETA Certificate in Motor Vehicle studies.
  • Mechanical knowledge is an added advantage.
  • Valid Tanzanian Driving License:
    • Class C
    • Class C1
    • or Class E
  • PSV License is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years professional driving experience, preferably in:
    • Logistics
    • Shipping
    • Corporate environments
  • Practical experience driving vans/buses is required.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Dar es Salaam roads
    • Port areas
    • Government offices
