Job Overview

Position Details

  • Job Title: Project Supervisor

  • Reporting To: Project Manager

Northern Engineering Works Limited is seeking to recruit a competent and experienced Project Supervisor to support the execution and supervision of fiber optic and telecommunications projects across Tanzania.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating field activities, supervising installation teams, ensuring quality compliance, and delivering projects within agreed timelines and standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Project Execution & Coordination

  • Supervise and coordinate fiber optic network projects from planning through execution and completion.
  • Oversee field teams during fiber optic cable installation, splicing, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure project activities are implemented according to approved scope, client requirements, and company standards.
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly project progress reports while ensuring adherence to project timelines and deliverables.
  • Coordinate with engineers and procurement teams on project budgeting, material planning, and resource allocation.
  • Monitor and ensure the availability and proper utilization of project materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure quality standards and telecom client specifications are achieved and maintained.
  • Assist in troubleshooting project challenges and escalate technical or operational issues where necessary.
  • Coordinate project documentation, site acceptance processes, and handover activities.
  • Promote teamwork, discipline, accountability, and professionalism among field teams and subcontractors.
  • Maintain proper communication and coordination between project teams, subcontractors, clients, and management.

2. SHEQ Compliance (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality)

  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and telecommunications safety procedures on all project sites.
  • Ensure field teams comply with company operational procedures, SHEQ requirements, and client expectations.
  • Report identified near misses, hazards, and SHEQ non-conformities to the NEWL SHEQ Manager.
  • Report at least five (5) near misses and five (5) hazards each month.
  • Ensure no planned work is undertaken without Field Level Risk Assessment (FLRA) preparation and communication.
  • Report any incident or property damage within 24 hours.
  • Ensure proper use of PPEs.
  • Ensure JMP is filled when driving more than 150 km or 2 hours.
  • Ensure proper waste disposal.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections.
  • Attend mandatory OSHA examinations.

Qualifications, Skills, and Work Experience

Education

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Telecommunications Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Civil Engineering
    • Information Technology
    • Or a related field

Experience

  • Minimum of 2–4 years’ experience in fiber optic or telecommunications project supervision.

Technical Knowledge

  • Knowledge of:
    • Fiber optic installation
    • Fiber splicing
    • Fiber testing
    • Telecom infrastructure operations

Leadership Skills

  • Strong leadership and team coordination abilities.

Communication Skills

  • Good report writing, communication, and organizational skills.

Core Competencies

  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to manage multiple site activities effectively.

Safety Awareness

  • Familiarity with HSE procedures and telecommunications safety standards.

Technical Tools

  • Proficiency in:
    • Microsoft Office Applications
    • Project reporting tools

Mobility

  • Applicants must be ready to work in any region within Tanzania.
