Position Details

  • Job Title: Project Coordinator
  • Department: Projects Department
  • Reporting To: Project Manager

Northern Engineering Works Limited (NEWL) is seeking to recruit a competent, experienced, and result-oriented Project Coordinator to support the planning, coordination, supervision, and successful implementation of telecommunications and fiber optic infrastructure projects across Tanzania.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating technical activities, project resources, field operations, and project documentation while ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and client requirements.


Duties and Responsibilities

1. Project Planning & Operations

  • Prepare project budgets and monitor project cost implementation to ensure operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Conduct Technical Site Surveys (TSS) for telecommunications and fiber optic projects.
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, and link budget calculations based on Technical Site Surveys conducted.
  • Prepare and coordinate overall Project Implementation Plans (PIP) for project execution.
  • Coordinate mobilization of project teams, tools, transportation, and project resources to project sites.
  • Oversee project financial activities and ensure proper utilization of approved project budgets.
  • Ensure proper mobilization, allocation, and accountability of project materials throughout project implementation.

2. Technical Execution & Supervision

  • Supervise trenching, backfilling, and duct laying activities during the project lifecycle.
  • Supervise the construction of Man Holes (MH), Hand Holes (HH), and route/post markers according to project specifications.
  • Oversee cable blowing activities and installation of optic fiber cables at telecommunications sites and towers.
  • Design and prepare ODF (Optical Distribution Frame) connectivity plans for project implementation.
  • Perform optic fiber splicing, OTDR testing, and installation/configuration of ODFs at project sites.

3. SHEQ Compliance (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality)

  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) procedures and maintain workers’ safety at all project sites.
  • Ensure SHEQ compliance on all projects.
  • Report identified near misses, hazards, and SHEQ non-conformities to the NEWL SHEQ Manager.
  • Report at least five (5) near misses and five (5) hazards each month.
  • Ensure no planned work is undertaken without Field Level Risk Assessment preparation and communication.
  • Report any incident or property damage within 24 hours.
  • Ensure the proper use of PPEs.
  • Ensure JMP is filled when driving more than 150 km or 2 hours.
  • Ensure proper waste disposal.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections.
  • Attend mandatory OSHA examinations.

Qualifications, Skills, and Work Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in:
    • Telecommunications Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Civil Engineering
    • Information Technology
    • Or a related field

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in telecommunications or fiber optic project coordination and implementation.

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Fiber optic infrastructure
    • Fiber splicing
    • OTDR testing
    • ODF installation
    • Telecom site operations

Documentation Skills

  • Ability to prepare:
    • Technical reports
    • Drawings
    • Implementation plans
    • Project documentation

Management Skills

  • Good understanding of:
    • Project budgeting
    • Material management
    • Project coordination processes

Safety Awareness

  • Familiarity with HSE policies and telecom safety procedures.
