Position Summary
The Agriculture MSME and Farmer Cooperatives Trainer will lead the design, delivery, and follow-up of capacity-building interventions for:
- Farmer groups
- Cooperatives
- Producer organizations
- Agricultural MSMEs
Under the SASTAIN Program, the position focuses on strengthening enterprise development, cooperative governance, agribusiness management, market participation, financial inclusion, and climate-resilient agricultural businesses.

Key Responsibilities
1. Training Needs Assessment & Curriculum Development
The Trainer will:
- Conduct training needs assessments among farmer groups, cooperatives, and Ag-MSMEs.
- Identify gaps in:
- Governance
- Business skills
- Financial literacy
- Technical production
- Aggregation
- Market readiness
- Develop and adapt:
- Training manuals
- Facilitator guides
- Participant handbooks
- Coaching tools
- Job aids
- Design training modules aligned with agricultural value chains.

2. Training Delivery and Facilitation
- Deliver face-to-face and digital training programs.
- Train:

- Demonstrations
- Case studies
- Peer learning
- Business clinics
- Field practical sessions

- Ensure training is properly documented and linked to measurable outcomes.
3. Cooperative Strengthening
- Support formation and strengthening of farmer organizations and cooperatives.
- Train cooperative leaders on:
- Governance
- Management
- Leadership
- Conduct institutional assessments.
- Support development of:
- Governance improvement plans
- Business growth plans
- Operational strengthening roadmaps
4. Agriculture MSME Development
- Provide enterprise coaching and mentorship.
- Support MSMEs in:
- Business planning
- Entrepreneurship
- Market intelligence
- Customer development
- Business model improvement
- Strengthen participation in agricultural value chains as:
- Producers
- Aggregators
- Processors
- Service providers
- Off-take partners
5. Coaching, Mentorship and Follow-Up
- Conduct post-training field visits.
- Provide one-on-one and group coaching.
- Assist participants in implementing:
- Business plans
- Governance plans
- Market engagement plans
- Identify high-potential enterprises for advanced support.
- Monitor adoption of recommended practices.
6. Financial Inclusion and Market Linkages
- Introduce participants to financial products and services.
- Support access to:
- Savings products
- Credit facilities
- Agricultural insurance
- Other financial services
- Collaborate with branch teams and financial service providers.
- Strengthen participants’ financial readiness and bankability.
- Facilitate market linkages with:
- Buyers
- Aggregators
- Suppliers
- Transporters
- Technology providers
- Input suppliers
- Off-takers
7. Programme Implementation and Coordination
- Coordinate project activities according to approved work plans.
- Organize:
- Trainings
- Field days
- Exposure visits
- Business forums
- Stakeholder meetings
- Work closely with:
- Branch teams
- Agribusiness Managers
- M&E Teams
- Implementing partners
- Regional stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with donor and organizational requirements.
8. Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Reporting
- Maintain accurate training and coaching records.
- Conduct pre- and post-training assessments.
- Monitor changes in:
- Knowledge

- Prepare:
- Weekly reports
- Monthly reports
- Quarterly reports
- Support data collection and program learning activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of training methodologies.

Qualifications and Experience
Education
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Agribusiness
- Agriculture
- Agricultural Economics
- Agricultural Extension
- Cooperative Management
- Rural Development
- Entrepreneurship
- Animal Production
- Horticulture
- Agroforestry
- Or a related discipline
Applicants with a business or finance degree and significant agricultural enterprise development experience may also be considered.
