Job Purpose
To support the Finance Unit in the processing, monitoring, reconciliation, and follow-up of Value Added Tax (VAT) refund claims in accordance with Government of Tanzania regulations and WFP financial policies.
The position contributes to efficient VAT recovery processes by coordinating with government institutions and maintaining accurate financial records.
Key Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Finance Associate and guidance of the Finance Officer, the Volunteer will:
VAT Claims Processing
- Monitor and record VAT claims.
- Verify completeness and accuracy of VAT documentation.
- Reconcile VAT claims and supporting records.
- Compile monthly tax invoices and supporting documents.
Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare VAT claim forms and supporting documentation in triplicate.
- Ensure claims meet submission requirements.
- Maintain compliance with WFP financial procedures and donor requirements.
Coordination with Government Institutions
- Submit VAT claims to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).
- Follow up with MoFA to obtain VAT clearance documentation.
- Facilitate submission of cleared claims to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA).
- Monitor refund processing progress and maintain communication with relevant stakeholders.
Tracking & Reporting
- Maintain a VAT claims tracking database.
- Monitor timelines, claim status, and outstanding refunds.
- Support reconciliation of VAT receivables.
- Provide updates and information for financial reporting purposes.
Process Improvement
- Identify delays, discrepancies, and process bottlenecks.
- Escalate issues when necessary.
- Contribute recommendations to improve VAT procedures.
- Assist in updating VAT Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Administrative Support
- Provide general finance and administrative support to the Finance Unit as required.
Required Qualifications
Education
Applicants should possess:
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
