Geita Gold Mining Limited is Tanzania’s leading gold producer and a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti.

The mine is located in the Lake Victoria Goldfields of northwestern Tanzania:

  • Approximately 85 km from Mwanza
  • Approximately 20 km southeast of Lake Victoria
  • Head office located near Geita
  • Supporting office in Dar es Salaam

Objective of the Role

The Senior Specialist – Open Pit Mine Planning will provide expert mine planning support to maximize value across AngloGold Ashanti’s operating assets and projects in Africa.

The role focuses on:

  • Developing strategic life-of-mine plans.
  • Supporting business planning and reserve processes.
  • Providing technical guidance to mining operations.
  • Ensuring compliance with mining standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Driving operational efficiency and value creation.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Strategic Mine Planning

  • Develop and evaluate strategic open-pit mine planning options that enhance operational value and support long-term business objectives.
  • Contribute to life-of-mine planning and optimization studies.

Operational Planning Support

  • Assist mining sites with:
    • Mine design
    • Production schedules
    • Annual budgets
    • Planning inputs and forecasting

Technical Studies

  • Lead or support mining studies at various project stages, including:
    • Concept Studies
    • Pre-Feasibility Studies
    • Feasibility Studies

Performance Analysis

  • Analyze operational performance against budgets and forecasts.
  • Assess production and cost performance and recommend improvements.

Reserve Management & Assurance

  • Support reserve reporting processes.
  • Participate in technical assurance activities.
  • Promote planning standardization across operations.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for operational improvement and value enhancement.
  • Support implementation of initiatives that improve efficiency and business performance.

Team Support & Capability Building

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to mine engineering and planning teams.
  • Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across sites.

Commercial Support

  • Contribute to annual rate reviews.
  • Participate in tender evaluation and contractor assessment processes when required.

Qualifications

Education

Applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant mining-related discipline.

Examples include:

  • Mining Engineering
  • Mine Planning
  • Mineral Resources Engineering
  • Geological Engineering
  • Or a related field

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

Required Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in open-pit mining operations and mine planning.

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency in mine planning software, particularly:
    • Whittle
    • Other mine planning and optimization tools
  • Experience with:
    • Budget planning
    • Production scheduling
    • Mineral reserve processes

Industry Knowledge

Strong understanding of the entire mining value chain, including:

  • Geology
  • Mining Operations
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Metallurgy
  • Mining Projects

Professional Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Commercial and financial acumen.
  • Risk management capabilities.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across diverse teams, cultures, and operational environments.

Travel Requirements
