Job Purpose

The Maintenance Planner is responsible for ensuring effective maintenance planning for production equipment by developing detailed maintenance plans, ensuring spare parts and resources are available, and monitoring maintenance execution during planned shutdowns. The role also supports continuous improvement initiatives by optimizing maintenance plans, minimizing downtime, and recommending corrective actions when unforeseen maintenance work arises.


Key Responsibilities

Safety, Health & Environmental Compliance

  • Comply with all safety, health, environmental, and company legislative requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of workplace safety and housekeeping.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with approved procedures.

Maintenance Planning

  • Develop comprehensive maintenance plans for plant equipment.
  • Plan repair work arising from inspection tasks, tags, and work orders.
  • Ensure all required spare parts, tools, and resources are available before maintenance begins.
  • Continuously optimize maintenance plans to reduce planned maintenance downtime while ensuring plant reliability.

Maintenance Systems & Documentation

  • Implement and maintain the maintenance planning system using SAP.
  • Manage and maintain maintenance records and equipment data.
  • Analyze maintenance data and prepare performance reports.
  • Create, update, and distribute maintenance reports.
  • Initiate, review, and update maintenance work instructions.
  • Audit maintenance documentation and completed work for accuracy and compliance.

Maintenance Execution

  • Plan and monitor scheduled preventive maintenance activities.
  • Monitor maintenance execution during planned shutdowns.
  • Recommend corrective actions to Maintenance Controllers when unexpected work arises.
  • Support maintenance projects from planning through execution.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Support, guide, and coach maintenance team members.
  • Train and coach internal customers on maintenance planning processes.
  • Operate as a leader within a multidisciplinary maintenance team.
  • Provide leave relief for the Maintenance Controller when required.
  • Manage personal performance and professional development.

Continuous Improvement

  • Apply and promote VPO (Voyager Plant Optimization) principles in all maintenance activities.
  • Understand, implement, and comply with GOP and Toolkit requirements.
  • Sustain implemented maintenance improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve maintenance efficiency and equipment reliability.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of production engineering experience in an FMCG environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of technical mechanical, electrical, and bottling experience in a leadership capacity within an FMCG environment.
  • Experience using SAP Maintenance Planning systems is an added advantage.
