Position Summary

The Chief Technology & Operations Officer & Country Technology Manager (CTM) for Tanzania is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the Technology and Operations strategy for the country.

The role ensures alignment between Group, Regional, and Country priorities while addressing local regulatory requirements, business needs, and strategic growth objectives.

It involves close collaboration with country leadership teams, regulators, auditors, and regional stakeholders to ensure operational resilience, digital transformation, and a strong governance environment.


Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute the country Technology and Operations strategy aligned with Group and Regional frameworks.
  • Align technology and operations initiatives with local business and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide leadership across technology and operations functions to support business growth.

Digital Transformation & Innovation

  • Lead transformation programs focused on:
    • Digital innovation
    • Process simplification
    • Operational efficiency
  • Promote a digital-first operating model using agile methodologies and scalable systems.
  • Encourage adoption of emerging technologies to improve client experience and competitiveness.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure stable, secure, and efficient delivery of technology and operational services.
  • Define and enforce performance metrics, SLAs, and control frameworks.
  • Strengthen operational resilience and service reliability.

Risk & Compliance Management

  • Oversee risk identification, escalation, mitigation, and reporting within Technology & Operations.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, legal requirements, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Engage with regulators and auditors to ensure successful compliance outcomes.

Change & Programme Governance

  • Oversee major change initiatives, including:
    • Regulatory compliance projects
    • Strategic investments
    • Mergers and acquisitions
    • Divestitures
  • Ensure timely and successful delivery of transformation programmes.

Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with:
    • Country Management Team
    • Regional Technology & Operations teams
    • Business leaders
    • Regulators and external stakeholders
  • Ensure alignment between technology execution and business strategy.

People Leadership & Culture

  • Build and sustain a high-performing, diverse, and inclusive team.
  • Promote accountability, learning, succession planning, and talent development.
  • Foster a culture of integrity, resilience, and excellence aligned with company values.

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive senior leadership experience in technology, operations, or governance within financial services.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale digital transformation and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Strong background in regulatory compliance and financial services governance.
  • Experience engaging with regulators, auditors, and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic planning and execution capabilities.
  • Deep understanding of emerging technologies and digital trends in banking.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in complex, multi-geography environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in:
    • Technology
    • Business
    • Finance
    • Or related discipline
  • Senior leadership experience in financial services or technology operations (preferably within a global or regional bank).
  • Advantageous:
    • Certifications in project management, risk management, or digital transformation.
