Job Purpose

The Environmental Officer is responsible for supporting the implementation of environmental strategies, standards, systems, programs, and processes to ensure compliance with company policies, legislative requirements, regulatory standards, and customer expectations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitor environmental impacts and collect data on the Business Unit’s environmental performance.
• Support environmental compliance by managing reporting requirements, environmental permits, and adherence to environmental laws and policies.
• Implement the organization’s Environmental Management System (EMS) at the operational level.
• Conduct environmental risk assessments and site inspections.
• Investigate environmental incidents, accidents, and near misses using appropriate investigation methods based on severity.
• Develop and deliver environmental awareness and compliance training programs.
• Provide technical environmental support to operational teams.
• Report environmental incidents and risks, and participate in developing corrective actions.
• Conduct regular environmental audits and risk assessments to identify hazards and opportunities for improvement.
• Ensure compliance with Business Unit and Group policies, including:
  • Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
  • Competition Law
  • Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)
• Engage with government and non-government environmental organizations to ensure compliance and adopt best environmental practices.
• Manage ecological systems within estate operations.
• Support and conduct waste management audits across the estate.
• Promote environmental sustainability within surrounding communities through awareness campaigns, school programs, village meetings, pamphlets, and presentations.
• Participate in monthly HSE meetings to ensure environmental issues are discussed and addressed.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in an environmental-related role, preferably within a corporate or industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, regulations, and standards.
• Experience conducting environmental risk assessments, incident investigations, and training programs.
• Ability to prioritize work effectively and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
