Role Purpose

The Trade Marketer is responsible for increasing sales and strengthening the market presence of products commercialized by Tanzania Cigarette Company (TCC) within an assigned retail territory.

The role focuses on implementing trade marketing programs, ensuring product availability and visibility, building strong customer relationships, supporting merchandising initiatives, and achieving sales growth targets.


Key Responsibilities

1. Trade Marketing Execution

  • Implement approved trade marketing programs across the assigned territory.
  • Achieve territory marketing objectives.
  • Increase market share of TCC brands.
  • Strengthen the positioning of JTI’s global flagship brands.
  • Ensure quarterly implementation of Sales Cycle activities with partner customers.

2. Sales Growth

  • Negotiate customer orders.
  • Achieve assigned sales volume targets.
  • Grow sales within the assigned territory.
  • Work closely with Sales Representatives to increase territory performance.
  • Promote company products and marketing programs.

3. Customer Relationship Management

  • Build strong long-term relationships with retail customers.
  • Establish win-win business partnerships.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for JTI.
  • Understand customer needs and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Anticipate customer requirements and address objections effectively.

4. Consumer Engagement

At the Point of Purchase (POP):

  • Engage directly with consumers.
  • Understand consumer preferences.
  • Encourage product trials.
  • Promote brand awareness.
  • Communicate product features and benefits.

5. Territory Management

Conduct regular customer visits according to planned routes by:

  • Visiting every target outlet at least once each month.
  • Planning daily routes efficiently.
  • Preparing all required materials before customer visits.
  • Listening carefully to customer feedback.
  • Identifying customer growth opportunities.
  • Optimizing product availability.
  • Improving product presentation and merchandising.
  • Implementing promotional activities.

6. Merchandising

  • Ensure proper product visibility.
  • Maintain attractive product displays.
  • Verify Display Unit compliance.
  • Deploy:
    • Point of Sale Materials (POSM)
    • Promotional materials
    • Marketing programs
  • Keep display units clean and organized.

7. Product Availability

  • Monitor stock levels.
  • Prevent Out-of-Stock (OOS) situations.
  • Coordinate with assigned Market Sales Managers (MSM) to resolve stock shortages.
  • Ensure priority products remain available throughout the territory.

8. Market Intelligence

Develop knowledge of:

  • Sales trends
  • Market share
  • Illicit trade
  • HoReCa (Hotels, Restaurants & Cafés)
  • Key Accounts
  • Kiosks
  • Tabletops
  • Customer buying behavior

Monitor competitor activities and report findings to management.


9. Customer Information Management

Maintain accurate customer information within the TME System by:

  • Updating customer profiles.
  • Conducting pricing audits.
  • Performing availability checks.
  • Completing market surveys.
  • Recording customer feedback.
  • Using collected data to improve future customer visits.

10. Reporting

  • Record all retail activities accurately in the TME system.
  • Report:
    • Sales activities
    • Marketing initiatives
    • Competitor activities
    • Market opportunities
  • Maintain balanced distribution across retail channels including:
    • Tobacco & Press
    • Convenience Stores
    • Supermarkets
    • Leisure outlets

11. Other Responsibilities

  • Perform additional duties assigned by management.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • University Degree or Advanced Diploma in:
    • Business Administration
    • Marketing
    • Sales
    • Commerce
    • Related field

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in:
