Role Overview

The Mechanical Technician will support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of manufacturing equipment by performing preventive and corrective maintenance activities. The role focuses on improving equipment performance, ensuring compliance with safety standards, supporting asset care initiatives, and contributing to operational excellence through the Manufacturing Management System (MMS).

Working closely with Operations and Maintenance teams, the successful candidate will help achieve targets related to safety, quality, production efficiency, cost optimization, and asset reliability.


Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance Operations

  • Perform preventive and planned maintenance activities.
  • Support the safe and reliable operation of manufacturing equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with maintenance regulatory standards.
  • Identify plant performance issues and contribute to improvement plans.
  • Support continuous improvement of maintenance practices.

2. Asset Care Management

  • Support implementation of the Manufacturing Management System (MMS) Asset Care Strategy.
  • Collaborate with:
    • Asset Care Leaders
    • Asset Care Technicians
    • Equipment Owners
    • Operators
  • Improve equipment reliability and overall plant performance.

3. SAP Maintenance Management

  • Maintain SAP data integrity for:
    • Plant structures
    • Equipment structures
    • Maintenance plans
    • Task lists
    • Work orders
  • Ensure compliance with Diageo Work Planning and Scheduling Standards.

4. Maintenance Planning

  • Conduct technical assessments of maintenance work requests.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are adequately planned before scheduling.
  • Participate in weekly integrated maintenance planning meetings.
  • Monitor scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Prioritize and reschedule incomplete work where necessary.

5. Operational Performance

  • Participate in daily operational review meetings.
  • Report asset care performance.
  • Recommend corrective actions to improve maintenance compliance and equipment performance.
  • Continuously optimize the use of:
    • Labour
    • Time
    • Materials
    • Maintenance resources

6. Inventory & Spare Parts Management

  • Analyze spare parts inventory requirements.
  • Improve inventory control processes.
  • Support procurement of:
    • Spare parts
    • Maintenance materials
    • Outsourced maintenance services
  • Coordinate with Facilities Management regarding procurement requirements.

7. Continuous Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support implementation of maintenance best practices.
  • Promote efficient maintenance planning through job knitting techniques.
  • Improve maintenance performance using system-generated data.

8. Team Leadership & Development

  • Promote teamwork and high morale.
  • Recognize strong performance.
  • Address underperformance promptly.
  • Participate in behavioral safety conversations.
  • Mentor and support colleagues where appropriate.

9. Personal Development

  • Maintain a personal development plan.
  • Complete P4G performance documentation.
  • Learn from feedback and continuously improve professional skills.
  • Expand technical capability to benefit both the individual and the organization.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in:
    • Mechanical maintenance
    • Manufacturing operations
    • Process control
    • Performance measurement

Experience within the following industries is preferred:

  • Brewery
  • Beverage manufacturing
  • Food processing
  • FMCG manufacturing
