Position Overview

The Auto Electrician will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing electrical systems on mining vehicles and equipment while ensuring all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) standards.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), and occupational health policies.
  • Attend mandatory safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Wear and maintain appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRA).
  • Report all incidents, accidents, and unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by leading through example.

Auto-Electrical Maintenance

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical systems on mining equipment.
  • Perform fault diagnosis and routine inspections on:
    • Light vehicles
    • Light trucks
    • Heavy-duty trucks
    • Forklifts
    • Bobcats
    • Other mining equipment
  • Carry out breakdown maintenance and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Complete work orders, maintenance reports, and system notifications on time.
  • Ensure all repairs comply with OEM procedures and company standards.
  • Support equipment component change-outs and rebuild programmes.

Operational Support

  • Coordinate daily maintenance activities and report progress to supervisors.
  • Help achieve maintenance performance targets.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and eliminate waste.
  • Investigate and implement new technologies that enhance auto-electrical maintenance.
  • Support departmental tactical plans and business objectives.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the reporting-line supervisor.

Training & Development

  • Assist in developing technical training programmes for the national workforce.
  • Conduct competency assessments.
  • Complete all required training under the Auto-Electrical and Maintenance Skills Matrix Programme.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • Secondary School Education.
  • Technical or vocational training, apprenticeship, or equivalent on-the-job training.
  • FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test, or an equivalent qualification in Auto Electrical or a related field.
  • Certification in Air Conditioning System Repairs.
  • Valid Tanzanian Driving Licence with Classes:
    • B
    • D
    • E
    • F
    • G

Experience Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in mine auto-electrical maintenance.
  • Practical experience maintaining mining vehicles and equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing automotive air-conditioning systems.
  • Sound knowledge of mining safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Experience with maintenance planning and scheduling.
  • Knowledge of equipment safety standards and preventive maintenance practices.
