Position Objective
The Graduate Geologist 2 – Mine Geology will support open-pit mine geology production by improving the understanding of deposit geology, orebody geometry, structural controls, and mineralization patterns. The role focuses on optimizing mineable ore blocks, improving mining efficiency, and minimizing ore loss and dilution.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Promote safe working practices by identifying and reporting workplace hazards.
- Support open-pit mine geology production activities.
- Assist in interpreting deposit geology, orebody geometry, structural geology, and mineralization controls.
- Conduct pit mapping and prepare geological cross-sections.
- Maintain quality control of samples collected from mining faces, benches, and stockpiles.
- Apply blast movement monitoring techniques to ensure accurate ore block demarcation.
- Record ore movements and ensure material is directed to the correct destinations.
- Communicate geological information to ore control, geological modelling, mine evaluation, and operational teams.
- Maintain effective communication with ROM pad personnel, truck operators, and excavator operators.
- Prepare and submit grade control drilling reports.
- Produce open-pit geological maps.
- Prepare and submit daily ore movement reports.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Geology
- Geoscience
- Or another closely related field from a recognized institution.
- Valid Tanzanian Class D Driving Licence or higher.
Experience
Applicants must have:
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in an Open Pit (OP) or Underground (UG) mining environment.
Required Knowledge & Skills
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Geological mapping skills.
- Knowledge of ore control management.
- Experience supervising Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling activities.
- Computer proficiency in:
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Good analytical, communication, and reporting skills.
