Job Overview

Northern Engineering Works Limited is seeking a qualified and experienced Technology Technician to support the efficient operation, monitoring, and optimization of Remote Monitoring Systems (RMS) and site technology infrastructure.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maximizing equipment performance, minimizing downtime and operational costs, and ensuring safe, reliable, and continuous network operations.


Key Responsibilities

Remote Monitoring System (RMS) Management

  • Ensure efficient operation of the Remote Monitoring System (RMS) to improve site visibility, monitoring, and operational control.
  • Maintain 100% visibility of all RMS-connected sites and promptly resolve communication failures.
  • Monitor and prevent unauthorized tampering with RMS equipment and components.
  • Monitor, investigate, and follow up on RMS alarms and system faults.
  • Ensure Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is completed and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Maintain a comprehensive history of RMS failures and recommend permanent solutions for recurring issues.

Fuel Monitoring and Cost Optimization

  • Participate in fuel reconciliation meetings with clients and security partners by providing accurate RMS data and technical support.
  • Monitor fuel overconsumption trends and investigate root causes.
  • Prepare reports with recommendations for the Technology Manager and Operations Manager.
  • Track and report OPEX savings achieved through technology initiatives.
  • Identify additional opportunities for cost reduction and operational improvement.

Site Technology and Asset Management

  • Monitor the performance of solar hybrid systems and implement measures to:
    • Improve equipment efficiency.
    • Extend asset lifespan.
  • Promote best maintenance practices to maximize the life of site CAPEX assets.
  • Minimize equipment failures through proactive maintenance approaches.
  • Follow up on outstanding site issues affecting:
    • Equipment performance.
    • System availability.
    • Customer service delivery.

Technical Support and Team Development

  • Ensure field teams have:
    • Required tools.
    • Testing equipment.
    • Technical skills.
  • Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Conduct technical training and knowledge-sharing sessions for field teams.
  • Develop and implement monthly technical training plans.
  • Improve team competency in operating and maintaining installed technologies.

Reporting and Compliance

  • Prepare accurate technical reports covering:
    • RMS performance.
    • System health.
    • Equipment reliability.
    • Improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all SHEQ requirements.
  • Report:
    • Hazards.
    • Near misses.
    • Unsafe working conditions.
  • Promote SHEQ compliance during:
    • Site inspections.
    • Maintenance activities.
    • Field operations.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Valid EWURA certification.
  • Valid Tanzanian Driving Licence.

Additional qualifications:

  • Defensive Driving certification.
  • 4×4 Driving certification from Top Gear or another accredited institution (added advantage).
